4.2 Using the Steam Wand (Frothing Milk)
- Prepare Milk: Fill a stainless steel frothing pitcher with cold milk (dairy or non-dairy) to just below the spout.
- Activate Steam: Press the steam button on the control panel. Wait for the steam indicator light to become solid, indicating the machine has reached steaming temperature.
- Purge Wand: Position the steam wand over the drip tray and briefly open the steam knob to release any condensed water. Close the knob.
- Froth Milk: Immerse the tip of the steam wand just below the surface of the milk. Open the steam knob fully. Angle the pitcher to create a swirling motion.
- Monitor Temperature: Continue steaming until the milk reaches the desired temperature and texture. The pitcher will become hot to the touch.
- Stop Steaming: Close the steam knob and remove the pitcher.
- Clean Wand: Immediately wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to remove any milk residue. Briefly open the steam knob again to clear any milk from inside the wand.
4.3 Dispensing Hot Water
- Ensure the machine is powered on and heated.
- Place a cup under the steam wand.
- Turn the steam knob to the steam position. Hot water will dispense from the steam wand.
- Close the steam knob when the desired amount of hot water is dispensed.
5. Maintenance
5.1 Daily Cleaning
- Portafilter and Filter Baskets: After each use, remove the portafilter, discard coffee grounds, and rinse the portafilter and filter basket under hot water.
- Steam Wand: Always wipe the steam wand immediately after frothing milk. Briefly purge steam to clear any internal residue.
- Drip Tray: Empty and rinse the drip tray daily or when the indicator floats up.
- Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
5.2 Descaling
Regular descaling is crucial to maintain machine performance and extend its lifespan, especially in areas with hard water. Descale every 2-3 months, or more frequently if you notice reduced water flow or unusual noises.
- Prepare a descaling solution according to the descaler manufacturer's instructions. Fill the water tank with this solution.
- Place a large container under the brew head and steam wand.
- Turn on the machine. Once heated, run half of the descaling solution through the brew head by pressing the espresso button.
- Then, open the steam knob and run the remaining solution through the steam wand.
- Turn off the machine and let it sit for 15-20 minutes.
- Empty the water tank, rinse it thoroughly, and refill with fresh water.
- Repeat steps 3-5 with fresh water to rinse the machine completely. Run several tanks of fresh water through the machine to ensure no descaling solution remains.
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No water flow from brew head. | Water tank empty; machine not primed; clogged filter/brew head; scale buildup. | Fill water tank; prime the machine; clean filter/brew head; descale the machine. |
| Espresso flows too slowly or not at all. | Coffee ground too fine; too much coffee in filter; coffee tamped too hard; scale buildup. | Use coarser grind; reduce coffee amount; tamp lighter; descale the machine. |
| Espresso flows too quickly, watery. | Coffee ground too coarse; too little coffee in filter; coffee tamped too lightly. | Use finer grind; increase coffee amount; tamp firmer. |
| Steam wand not producing steam. | Machine not at steaming temperature; steam wand clogged. | Wait for steam indicator light; clean steam wand hole with a pin. |
| Machine leaking water. | Water tank not seated correctly; drip tray full; seal issue. | Ensure water tank is properly seated; empty drip tray; contact support if leak persists. |
