Setup and Installation

Package Contents:

  • ZTW Shark G2 30A Bi-Direction Water Cooling Brushless ESC x 1
  • User Manual x 1 (This document)

Connecting the ESC:

  1. Connect to Motor: Connect the three motor wires from the ESC to your brushless motor. Ensure correct phasing for desired rotation, or swap any two wires if rotation is incorrect.
  2. Connect to Battery: Connect the battery input wires (red and black) from the ESC to your compatible Lipo or NiCd/NiMH battery pack. Ensure correct polarity.
  3. Connect to Receiver: Plug the BEC output cable from the ESC into the throttle channel of your RC receiver.

Throttle Calibration:

Throttle calibration is crucial for proper operation and should be performed the first time using the ESC or if the transmitter (TX) is changed. This process teaches the ESC the full range of your transmitter's throttle stick.

A. For Bi-Directional (Forward and Reverse) Operation:

  1. Ensure your transmitter's throttle stick is in the neutral position.
  2. Power on the ESC. You will hear a beep.
  3. Immediately move the throttle stick to the MAX (full forward) position. After another beep, move the stick to the MINIMUM (full reverse) position.
  4. Power off the ESC, then restart it. The calibration is complete.

B. For Forward-Only Operation (No Reverse):

  1. Ensure your transmitter's throttle stick is in the MAX (full forward) position.
  2. Power on the ESC. You will hear a beep.
  3. Immediately move the throttle stick to the MINIMUM (full reverse) position. After another beep, the calibration is complete.
  4. Repower the ESC.

Operating Instructions

Once the ESC is properly connected and throttle calibrated, you can begin operation. The bi-directional functionality allows for seamless transition between forward and reverse motion, making it ideal for RC boats and other applications requiring versatile movement.

  • Forward Movement: Push the throttle stick forward from the neutral position. The further forward, the faster the motor will spin in the forward direction.
  • Reverse Movement: Pull the throttle stick backward from the neutral position. The further back, the faster the motor will spin in the reverse direction (if bi-directional mode is enabled).
  • Braking: In some configurations, moving the throttle stick rapidly from forward to reverse (or vice-versa) may engage a braking function before full reverse/forward is applied. Refer to your transmitter's settings for specific braking behaviors.

Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your ZTW Shark G2 ESC.

  • Water Cooling System: Regularly inspect the water cooling lines for any kinks, blockages, or leaks. Ensure water flows freely through the system during operation to prevent overheating. Clean any debris from the cooling jacket if necessary.
  • Cleanliness: Keep the ESC clean and free from dirt, dust, and moisture. While the ESC is waterproof, it is good practice to rinse it with fresh water after use in saltwater or dirty conditions, and then dry it thoroughly.
  • Connections: Periodically check all wire connections for secure fit. Loose connections can lead to intermittent performance or damage.
  • Storage: Store the ESC in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures when not in use.

Troubleshooting

This section provides solutions to common issues you might encounter with your ZTW Shark G2 ESC.

ProblemPossible Cause / Solution
Motor not responding / No power
  • Check battery connection and charge level.
  • Ensure ESC is correctly plugged into the receiver's throttle channel.
  • Verify transmitter is on and bound to the receiver.
  • Perform throttle calibration (see Setup section).
Motor stutters or runs erratically
  • Check motor wire connections for looseness or poor contact.
  • Ensure motor is not damaged or obstructed.
  • Verify battery voltage is within the ESC's supported range.
ESC overheats
  • Check water cooling system for blockages or insufficient flow.
  • Ensure the motor is not over-propped or drawing excessive current.
  • Operating in extreme ambient temperatures.
Low Voltage Cut-off (LVC) activates prematurely
  • Battery voltage is genuinely low; recharge or replace battery.
  • Battery C-rating is too low for the current draw, causing voltage sag.
  • Check ESC programming for LVC settings (if adjustable).
No reverse function
  • Ensure throttle calibration was performed for bi-directional mode.
  • Check ESC programming if it has a setting for forward-only vs. bi-directional.
