4.2 Transmitting and Receiving

  1. To Transmit: Press and hold the PTT (Push-to-Talk) button located on the side of the walkie talkie. Speak clearly into the microphone. Release the PTT button when finished speaking.
  2. To Receive: Ensure the PTT button is not pressed. The walkie talkie will automatically receive transmissions on the selected channel.

4.3 VOX Function (Hands-Free Communication)

The VOX (Voice Operated Exchange) function allows you to transmit without pressing the PTT button. When VOX is activated, the radio will automatically transmit when it detects your voice. This is useful when your hands are occupied.

  • Activating VOX: Refer to the full user manual for specific button combinations or menu options to activate and adjust VOX sensitivity (if available).
  • Usage: Once activated, simply speak into the microphone to transmit. The radio will stop transmitting when you stop speaking.

4.4 Squelch Function

The Squelch function helps to filter out weak signals and background noise, providing clearer communication. The RT15 features 0-9 levels of squelch. A higher squelch level reduces more noise but may also filter out very weak, distant signals.

  • Adjusting Squelch: Consult the detailed user manual for instructions on how to adjust the squelch level.
  • Benefit: Reduces wind noise and other ambient sounds, enhancing audio clarity.

4.5 CTCSS/DCS Tones

The RT15 supports CTCSS (Continuous Tone-Coded Squelch System) and DCS (Digitally Coded Squelch) tones. These sub-audible tones allow you to communicate with a specific group of users on the same channel, filtering out unwanted conversations from other groups using the same frequency.
