3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Key Functions

The keyboard features a standard full-size layout. Specific functions can be accessed using the Function (FN) key in combination with other keys. Refer to the keycaps for secondary functions indicated by symbols or text.

3.2 Function Lock

To enable or disable Function Lock, press the CTRL key and the FN key simultaneously. The FN key will illuminate red when Function Lock is engaged, indicating that secondary functions (e.g., F1-F12 multimedia controls) are active without needing to hold down the FN key.

3.3 CHERRY MX2A Switches

The MX 3.1 keyboard is equipped with CHERRY MX2A switches, offering reliable and comfortable typing. These switches feature gold crosspoint precision, premium lubricant, and an innovative spring design for smoother actuation and improved acoustics. They are rated for a 100 million keystroke lifespan.

  • CHERRY MX2A Red: A linear switch without a tactile bump or audible click, providing a smooth and direct keystroke.
  • CHERRY MX2A Brown: A tactile switch without an audible click, offering a noticeable bump for precise feedback during actuation.
  • CHERRY MX2A Silent Red: A linear switch similar to MX2A Red but with additional noise-damping features for quieter operation.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning the Keyboard

  • Disconnect the keyboard from your computer before cleaning.
  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water or a mild cleaning solution to wipe the surface of the keyboard and keycaps.
  • Avoid using harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, or solvents, as these can damage the finish and keycap legends.
  • For dust and debris between keycaps, use compressed air.

4.2 Keycap and Switch Care

The keyboard features abrasion-resistant double-shot keycaps. While durable, avoid excessive force when cleaning or removing them. The MX2A switches are designed for longevity and generally do not require user maintenance. Do not attempt to lubricate or modify the switches yourself, as this may void the warranty.

5. Troubleshooting

5.1 Keyboard Not Responding

  • Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the keyboard and the computer.
  • Try connecting the keyboard to a different USB port on your computer.
  • Test the keyboard on another computer to determine if the issue is with the keyboard or the original computer.
  • Restart your computer.

5.2 RGB Lighting Issues

  • Ensure the CHERRY Utility Software is installed and up to date.
  • Check the software settings to confirm that RGB lighting is enabled and configured as desired.
  • If specific keys are not lighting up, ensure no individual key lighting profiles are overriding the global settings.

5.3 Keys Not Registering

  • Clean the affected key area using compressed air to remove any debris.
  • If the issue persists, contact customer support.
