  • FS Series: FS1018

Important Note: DO NOT mix ECC and Non-ECC SODIMM RAM together in the same system. This can lead to system instability or failure.

4. Setup and Installation

Memory installation typically involves opening your system's chassis and inserting the modules into the designated SODIMM slots. Always refer to your system's specific user manual for detailed instructions on accessing and upgrading memory.

General Installation Steps:

  1. Power Off: Completely shut down your system and disconnect all power cables.
  2. Discharge Static: Ground yourself to discharge any static electricity. This can be done by touching a metal, unpainted surface of your system's chassis.
  3. Locate Memory Slots: Open your system's chassis and locate the SODIMM memory slots. Consult your system's manual for exact location.
  4. Remove Existing Modules (if applicable): If replacing existing modules, gently push the retention clips on both sides of the SODIMM slot outwards. The module will pop up, allowing you to carefully pull it out.
  5. Install New Modules: Align the notch on the Timetec SODIMM module with the key in the memory slot. Insert the module at a 45-degree angle and firmly push down until the retention clips snap into place, securing the module.
  6. Close Chassis: Once both modules are securely installed, close the system chassis.
  7. Power On: Reconnect power cables and power on your system. The system should automatically detect the new memory.

5. Operating Instructions

Once the Timetec DDR4 ECC Unbuffered SODIMM RAM modules are correctly installed, they operate automatically. The system's BIOS/UEFI and operating system will recognize the increased memory capacity. No specific software installation or configuration is typically required for the memory modules themselves.

For optimal performance, ensure your system's firmware (BIOS/UEFI) is up to date. Some systems may offer memory testing utilities within their BIOS/UEFI settings or through the operating system to verify memory integrity.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues after installing the memory, consider the following troubleshooting steps:

  • System Does Not Boot:
    • Ensure the memory modules are fully seated in their slots and the retention clips are locked.
    • Verify that the modules are compatible with your system (refer to Section 3: Compatibility).
    • Try installing one module at a time to identify if a specific module is faulty.
    • Reset your system's BIOS/UEFI settings to default.
  • Incorrect Memory Capacity Detected:
    • Check your system's BIOS/UEFI settings to confirm the detected memory.
    • Ensure all modules are properly installed.
    • Verify that your operating system is 64-bit, as 32-bit operating systems cannot utilize more than approximately 4GB of RAM.
  • System Instability or Crashes:
    • Run a memory diagnostic tool (e.g., MemTest86, Windows Memory Diagnostic) to check for errors.
    • Ensure your system's firmware (BIOS/UEFI) is updated to the latest version.
    • Confirm that you are not mixing ECC and Non-ECC memory modules.

If issues persist after following these steps, please contact Timetec technical support for further assistance.
