Safety Information

Always prioritize safety when working on your vehicle. Ensure the hood is securely supported before beginning any work. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses and gloves. Gas springs are under high pressure; do not attempt to open or puncture them.

Installation Guide

Tools Required:

  • Flathead screwdriver or small pry tool (for clip removal)
  • Assistant (recommended for hood support)

Step-by-Step Installation:

  1. Prepare the Vehicle: Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake. Open the hood and secure it in the fully open position using a prop rod or have an assistant hold it firmly. This is critical to prevent the hood from falling during the process.
  2. Locate Existing Supports: Identify the old hood lift supports on both sides of the engine bay.
  3. Remove Old Support (One Side at a Time):
    • Using a flathead screwdriver or pry tool, carefully pry open the metal clips on the ends of the old lift support where they attach to the ball studs.
    • Once the clips are disengaged, gently pull the old support off the ball studs.
    • Important: Replace one support at a time to maintain hood stability.
  4. Install New Support:
    • Align the new BOXI lift support with the ball studs.
    • Press the ends of the new support onto the ball studs until they snap securely into place. You should hear or feel a click. Ensure the metal clips are fully engaged around the ball studs.

  5. Repeat for Other Side: Once the first new support is securely installed, repeat steps 3 and 4 for the other side.
  6. Test Operation: Carefully lower and raise the hood several times to ensure the new supports function correctly and hold the hood securely in the open position.

Maintenance

BOXI lift supports are designed for long-lasting performance with minimal maintenance. However, periodic inspection can help ensure optimal function and safety.

  • Visual Inspection: Regularly check the lift supports for any signs of damage, such as bending, dents, or corrosion on the rod or cylinder.
  • Leak Detection: Look for any oil or fluid leaks around the seals of the cylinder. A leaking support indicates a loss of gas pressure and requires replacement.
  • Attachment Points: Verify that the ends of the supports are securely attached to the ball studs and that the clips are fully engaged.
  • Cleaning: Keep the rods clean and free of dirt or debris. Wipe them gently with a clean, damp cloth if necessary. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
