3. Setup and Installation
3.1 Enclosure Recommendations
The GTR84 subwoofer performs optimally in properly designed enclosures. For best results, consider the following recommendations:
- Ported Box: Approximately 0.96 cubic feet (9.6"H x 15"D x 10.8"W) tuned to 39.9Hz.
- Sealed Box: Approximately 0.5 cubic feet.
3.2 Wiring Configurations (Dual 4 Ohm)
The GTR84 features dual 4 Ohm voice coils, offering flexibility in wiring to match your amplifier's impedance requirements. Always ensure your amplifier is stable at the chosen impedance.

Figure 2: Subwoofer terminals with flexible pure copper wire.
3.2.1 Series Wiring (8 Ohm Total)
Connect the positive terminal of Voice Coil 1 to the negative terminal of Voice Coil 2. Then, connect the amplifier's positive output to the positive terminal of Voice Coil 2, and the amplifier's negative output to the negative terminal of Voice Coil 1. This configuration results in an 8 Ohm load.
3.2.2 Parallel Wiring (2 Ohm Total)
Connect the positive terminals of both voice coils together. Connect the negative terminals of both voice coils together. Then, connect the amplifier's positive output to the combined positive terminals, and the amplifier's negative output to the combined negative terminals. This configuration results in a 2 Ohm load.
3.3 Mounting
Ensure the mounting surface is rigid and free from obstructions. Use appropriate mounting hardware to secure the subwoofer firmly within the enclosure. Refer to the dimension diagram for precise cutout and mounting hole measurements.

4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Initial Power-Up and Break-in
After installation, gradually increase the volume during the first few hours of use. This 'break-in' period allows the subwoofer's suspension components to loosen and settle, leading to optimal performance. Avoid playing at maximum volume during this initial phase.
4.2 Amplifier Settings
Properly setting your amplifier's gain and crossover frequencies is crucial for sound quality and subwoofer longevity.
- Gain Setting: Set the amplifier gain to match the output voltage of your head unit. Avoid setting the gain too high, as this can lead to distortion and potential damage.
- Low-Pass Filter (LPF): Set the LPF on your amplifier to filter out frequencies above the subwoofer's intended range, typically between 80Hz and 120Hz.
- Subsonic Filter: If available, set a subsonic filter to protect the subwoofer from playing frequencies below its resonant frequency (Fs), which is 39.9Hz for the GTR84. A setting around 30Hz is often appropriate.
5. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and performance of your GTR84 subwoofer, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to gently wipe down the subwoofer cone and surround. Avoid using harsh chemicals or excessive moisture.
- Inspection: Periodically inspect the subwoofer for any signs of damage, such as tears in the surround or cone, loose connections, or unusual wear.
- Environmental Conditions: Protect the subwoofer from extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, and moisture. Ensure adequate ventilation around the enclosure to prevent overheating.

6. Troubleshooting
If you experience issues with your GTR84 subwoofer, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
- No Sound:
- Check all wiring connections (power, ground, remote, signal, speaker).
- Verify the amplifier is powered on and not in protection mode.
- Ensure the head unit is sending an audio signal.
- Distorted Sound:
- Reduce the amplifier gain setting.
- Check for proper crossover settings.
- Inspect the subwoofer cone and surround for physical damage.
- Overheating:
- Ensure adequate ventilation around the amplifier and subwoofer.
- Verify the amplifier's impedance matches the subwoofer's wiring configuration.
- Reduce prolonged high-volume playback.
