The Ariete 1399 is a compact and versatile espresso machine designed for home use, offering 15 bar pressure for authentic espresso, a maxi-cappuccino device for frothing milk, and a hot water dispenser for other beverages. It is compatible with both ground coffee and ESE (Easy Serving Espresso) pods.
2. Safety Instructions
Always observe basic safety precautions when using electrical appliances to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury.
- Read all instructions before operating the appliance.
- Do not immerse the appliance, power cord, or plug in water or other liquids.
- Ensure the voltage indicated on the appliance matches your local mains voltage.
- Keep the appliance out of reach of children.
- Unplug the machine from the power outlet when not in use and before cleaning.
- Do not operate the appliance with a damaged cord or plug.
- Avoid contact with hot surfaces, especially the steam wand and coffee dispenser.

3. Product Components

4. Setup
4.1 Unpacking
- Remove all packaging materials from the machine.
- Place the machine on a stable, flat, heat-resistant surface.
- Ensure adequate ventilation around the appliance.
4.2 Initial Cleaning and Priming
- Wash the water tank, filter holder, and drip tray with warm water and mild detergent. Rinse thoroughly.
- Fill the water tank with fresh, cold water up to the 'MAX' level.
- Place a cup under the coffee dispenser.
- Plug the machine into a power outlet and press the power button. The indicator lights will flash.
- Once the lights are steady, press the 1-cup button to dispense water. Repeat this process 2-3 times to prime the pump and clean the internal circuits.
- Perform the same priming process for the steam wand by turning the steam knob to release hot water/steam until a steady flow is achieved.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Making Espresso
- Ensure the water tank is filled.
- Insert the desired filter into the filter holder (for ground coffee or ESE pod).
- For Ground Coffee: Add one or two scoops of finely ground espresso coffee to the filter. Tamp the coffee firmly with the included tamper.
- For ESE Pods: Place one ESE pod into the appropriate filter.
- Attach the filter holder to the group head and lock it into place by turning it to the right.
- Place one or two cups on the drip tray under the coffee dispenser. The drip tray height is adjustable to accommodate various cup sizes.

- Press the 1-cup or 2-cup button depending on your selection. The machine will start brewing.
- Once the desired amount of coffee is dispensed, the machine will stop automatically.

5.2 Making Cappuccino / Frothing Milk
- Prepare your espresso as described above.
- Fill a pitcher with cold milk (dairy or non-dairy) to about one-third full.
- Press the steam button on the control panel. The indicator light will flash and then become steady when the machine reaches the correct temperature for steam.
- Position the steam wand into the milk, just below the surface.
- Slowly turn the steam dispensing knob to release steam. Move the pitcher up and down to create foam.

- Once the milk is frothed to your desired consistency, turn the steam knob off and remove the pitcher.
- Immediately clean the steam wand with a damp cloth to prevent milk residue from drying.
- Pour the frothed milk over your freshly brewed espresso.
5.3 Hot Water Dispensing
The steam wand can also dispense hot water for teas, infusions, or to pre-warm cups.
- Ensure the water tank is filled.
- Place a cup under the steam wand.
- Press the steam button. Wait for the indicator light to become steady.
- Turn the steam dispensing knob to release hot water.
- Turn the knob off when you have dispensed the desired amount of hot water.
6. Maintenance and Cleaning
Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your espresso machine.
6.1 Daily Cleaning
- Filter Holder and Filter: After each use, remove the filter holder, discard the coffee grounds/pod, and rinse the filter holder and filter under running water.
- Drip Tray: Empty and rinse the drip tray daily or when the indicator shows it is full.
- Steam Wand: Immediately after frothing milk, wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to remove any milk residue. Purge a small amount of steam to clear the nozzle.
- Water Tank: Rinse the water tank daily and refill with fresh water.
- Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
6.2 Descaling
Over time, mineral deposits (limescale) can build up in the machine, affecting performance. Descale your machine every 2-3 months, or more frequently if you have hard water.
- Use a commercial descaling solution suitable for espresso machines, following the manufacturer's instructions.
- Fill the water tank with the descaling solution and water mixture.
- Place a large container under the coffee dispenser and steam wand.
- Run the descaling solution through the coffee dispenser and steam wand until the tank is empty.
- Rinse the water tank thoroughly and refill with fresh water.
- Run several tanks of fresh water through the machine to rinse out any descaling solution residue.
6.3 Auto Shut-Off
The Ariete 1399 features an auto shut-off system that activates after 25 minutes of inactivity to conserve energy.
