Setup
- Download the Tapo App: Search for 'Tapo' in the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android) and download the official Tapo app.
- Create a Tapo Account: Open the app and follow the on-screen instructions to create a new Tapo account or log in if you already have one.
- Power On the Camera: Connect the provided power adapter to the camera and plug it into a power outlet. The LED indicator on the camera will start blinking red and green.
- Add Camera to App: In the Tapo app, tap the '+' icon to add a new device. Select your Tapo C101 model and follow the in-app instructions to connect it to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.
- Position the Camera: Place the camera on a flat surface or use the included mounting template and screws to mount it on a wall or ceiling. Ensure the camera has a clear view of the area you wish to monitor.
Operating Instructions
Motion Detection & Instant Notification
The Tapo C101 camera features advanced motion detection. When motion, a person, or baby crying is detected, you will receive instant push notifications on your smartphone. You can customize activity zones within the Tapo app to focus on specific areas and reduce unnecessary alerts.

2-Way Audio with Built-in Siren
Utilize the integrated two-way audio feature to communicate with individuals near the camera or to deter intruders with the built-in siren. The camera includes a microphone and speaker for clear communication.

Night Vision
The Tapo C101 provides clear night vision up to 30 feet using an integrated IR sensor, ensuring continuous monitoring even in low-light conditions.
Storage Options
You have two options for storing your video footage:
- Local Storage: Insert a microSD card (up to 512 GB, sold separately) into the camera for continuous recording without additional fees.
- Cloud Storage: Subscribe to Tapo Care for cloud storage, which offers a 30-day video history and additional benefits like motion tracking and baby crying detection.
Smart Home Compatibility
The Tapo C101 is fully compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. Use voice commands to view the live stream on compatible devices like Echo Show or Google Chromecast with a screen.
Maintenance
- Firmware Updates: Regularly check for and install firmware updates through the Tapo app to ensure your camera performs optimally and has the latest security features.
- Cleaning: Gently wipe the camera lens and body with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
- MicroSD Card Management: If using local storage, periodically review and manage your microSD card footage to prevent it from filling up.
Troubleshooting
