3.3 Tonearm and Cartridge Setup

  3. Carefully remove the stylus protector from the cartridge.
  4. Unlock the tonearm from its rest. Lift the cueing lever.
  5. While holding the headshell, lower the cueing lever completely. Do not let the stylus touch the platter.
  6. Turn the counterweight until the tonearm floats parallel to the platter. This is the balanced position.
  7. Once balanced, return the tonearm to its rest and lock it.
  8. Turn only the numbered ring of the counterweight to '0' on the center line. Do not turn the entire counterweight.
  9. Now, turn the entire counterweight (including the numbered ring) counter-clockwise until the desired tracking force is set (e.g., 2 grams for the Pick it MM EVO cartridge).
  10. Locate the anti-skating dial near the tonearm base. Set this dial to the same value as your tracking force (e.g., '2').

Wipe the dust cover and plinth with a soft, dry, anti-static cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents.

5.3 Drive Belt Inspection

Periodically inspect the drive belt for any signs of wear or stretching. A worn belt can affect playback speed and consistency.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues with your turntable, please refer to the following common solutions:

  • No Sound: Check all cable connections (RCA, ground, power). Ensure your amplifier is set to the correct input and volume.
  • Distorted Sound: Verify that the tracking force and anti-skating settings are correct. Ensure the stylus is clean and undamaged.
  • Incorrect Speed: Confirm the drive belt is properly seated and not worn. Ensure the correct speed (33/45 RPM) is selected.
  • Humming Noise: Check the ground wire connection. Ensure the turntable is placed away from electronic devices that may cause interference.

If problems persist, please contact Pro-Ject customer support.
