3. Assembly Instructions
The MechMaxx GS1500 chipper requires some assembly. It is recommended that two people assemble this unit due to its weight (441 lbs).
- Unpacking: Carefully remove all components from the plywood container and sturdy pallet. Verify all parts are present against the packing list.
- Wheel Assembly: Attach the 16*8.00-7 tubeless tires to the axle using the provided hardware. Ensure all bolts are securely tightened.
- Tow Bar Installation: Secure the tow bar to the main frame of the chipper. Ensure the hitch cup and joint are properly aligned and fastened.
- Discharge Chute Attachment: Mount the 360° rotating discharge chute to the chipper body. Confirm it can rotate freely and lock into desired positions.
- Battery Connection: Connect the 12V 20Ah battery. Pay close attention to positive (+) and negative (-) terminals. Refer to the wiring diagram for correct connections. Note: Some units may require a specific jumper wire for electric start functionality. Contact customer service if missing.
- Final Checks: Before operation, double-check all fasteners for tightness. Ensure no tools or loose parts are left on the machine.
4. Setup and Pre-Operation
Fuel and Oil
- Engine Oil: Fill the engine crankcase with the recommended type and amount of engine oil. Refer to the engine manual for specific oil type and capacity. Do not overfill.
- Fuel: Fill the fuel tank with fresh, unleaded gasoline. Do not use old or contaminated fuel. Ensure the fuel cap is securely tightened.
Work Area Preparation
- Select a level, stable surface for operation, away from buildings, flammable materials, and other obstructions.
- Ensure adequate space around the chipper for feeding material and for the discharge of wood chips.
- Clear the area of any debris that could interfere with operation or cause a tripping hazard.
5. Operating Instructions
Follow these steps for safe and efficient operation of your MechMaxx wood chipper.
Starting the Engine
- Ensure the emergency stop button is disengaged (pulled out).
- Turn the fuel valve to the 'ON' position.
- Set the choke lever to the 'CHOKE' position (if engine is cold).
- Move the throttle lever to the 'FAST' position.
- For electric start: Turn the start key to the 'START' position until the engine starts, then release.
- For pull start: Pull the recoil starter handle firmly until the engine starts.
- Once the engine starts, gradually move the choke lever to the 'RUN' position as the engine warms up.
Chipping Operation
- Allow the engine to reach full operating speed before feeding material.
- Feed branches and brush into the hopper one at a time, butt end first.
- Do not force material into the chipper. Allow the machine to pull the material through.
- Avoid feeding material with excessive dirt, rocks, or metal objects, as this can damage the blades.
- Adjust the discharge chute direction as needed to direct wood chips to your desired location.
Shutting Down the Engine
- Reduce the engine speed to idle.
- Allow the engine to cool down for a few minutes.
- Turn the engine switch to the 'OFF' position.
- Turn the fuel valve to the 'OFF' position.
- Engage the emergency stop button (push in) for added safety during storage or maintenance.

6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of your wood chipper.
Routine Maintenance Schedule
- Before Each Use: Check engine oil level, fuel level, air filter cleanliness, and inspect blades for sharpness and damage. Ensure all fasteners are tight.
- Every 5 Hours of Operation: Clean the air filter.
- Every 25 Hours of Operation or Annually: Change engine oil. Inspect spark plug and clean/replace as needed. Check and adjust drive belt tension.
- As Needed: Sharpen or replace chipper blades. Clean the chipping chamber of any accumulated debris. Lubricate moving parts as specified in the engine manual.
Blade Maintenance
The chipper blades are double-edged and can be flipped for extended use. When both edges are dull, replace the blades. Always use genuine MechMaxx replacement parts.
