Operating Instructions: Punch Needle Technique

   • Thread the yarn through the small eye at the very tip of the needle. Leave a short tail of yarn (approximately 1 inch) hanging from the needle tip.

   

2. Punching Technique:
   • Hold the punch needle tool with the open side of the needle tip always facing the direction you are punching.

3. Color Changes: When changing yarn colors, cut the current yarn, leaving a short tail. Thread the new color into the punch needle and continue punching.

Finishing Your Coaster

1. Completing the Design: Once all areas of the pattern are filled with punch needle stitches, carefully remove the fabric from the embroidery hoop.
2. Securing Loops (Optional): You have two primary options for the finished texture:
   • Loop Side Finish: For a textured, looped appearance, leave the loops as they are on the front side of the fabric.
   • Furry Finished Effect: For a plush, rug-like texture, carefully trim the loops on the front side of the fabric using scissors. This creates a soft, furry surface.

   

3. Attaching Felt Backing: Take one of the adhesive felt backings. Carefully peel off the protective paper from the adhesive side. Align the felt backing with the reverse side of your finished punch needle piece and press firmly to secure. Trim any excess fabric around the edges to match the shape of the felt backing, creating a neat coaster.
