1. Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of your FOSCAM 3K 5MP 8CH PoE Network Video Recorder (NVR). 2. Safety Information
To ensure safe and proper operation, please observe the following safety precautions:
- Use only the power adapter supplied with the device.
- Do not expose the NVR to water or moisture.
- Avoid placing the NVR in direct sunlight or near heat sources.
- Ensure proper ventilation to prevent overheating.

4. Setup
4.1. Hard Drive Installation (HDD not included)
The NVR requires a 3.5-inch SATA hard disk drive (HDD) for recording. Follow these steps to install the HDD:
- Unscrew the screws on the side and back panel of the NVR.
- Carefully slide open the NVR cover.
- Connect the SATA data cable and power cable to the HDD.
- Secure the HDD to the NVR chassis using the provided screws.
- Slide the NVR cover back into place and secure it with the screws.

4.2. Power Connection
Connect the NVR power adapter to the DC 48V port on the back of the NVR, then plug the adapter into a power outlet. Turn on the power switch located next to the DC 48V port.
4.3. Network Connection
Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the LAN port on the NVR and the other end to your router's LAN port. This provides network access for remote viewing and system updates.
4.4. Monitor Connection
Connect the NVR to a monitor using either an HDMI cable (for high-definition display) or a VGA cable. These cables are not included and must be prepared separately.
4.5. Camera Connection
The FOSCAM NVR supports Power over Ethernet (PoE) for easy installation, allowing a single Ethernet cable to transmit both power and data to compatible PoE cameras. It is also compatible with most third-party ONVIF IP cameras.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1. Initial Login and Account Setup
Upon first power-on, you will be prompted to create a user account and password for the NVR. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your credentials. The maximum username length is 20 characters, including numbers, letters, and symbols. The password should be a combination of 6-12 numbers, letters, and symbols.
5.2. User Interface Navigation
The NVR features an intuitive graphical user interface (GUI) accessible via a connected monitor and mouse. Right-click on the screen to access the main menu and various configuration options.
5.3. Recording Configuration
The NVR supports continuous 24/7 recording, scheduled recording, and motion-triggered recording modes. You can configure these settings through the 'Record' option in the main menu.

5.4. Playback
Access recorded footage through the 'Playback' option in the main menu. You can search for recordings by date, time, and event type.
5.5. Remote Access
Manage your home security system remotely using the free Foscam/Foscam VMS App, compatible with iOS, Android, Windows, and Mac devices. This allows you to view live feeds, manage cameras, schedule recordings, and receive motion alerts without monthly fees.

5.6. AI Human/Vehicle Detection

6. Maintenance
6.1. Hard Drive Management
Regularly check the status of your hard drive through the NVR's 'HDD' menu. If the hard drive is full, you can configure it to overwrite old footage or stop recording. It is recommended to format the hard drive periodically to maintain optimal performance.
6.2. Firmware Updates
Periodically check for firmware updates to ensure your NVR has the latest features and security enhancements. Updates can typically be performed via the 'Upgrade' option in the main menu, either from a local file (USB) or directly from the cloud.
6.3. Cleaning
To maintain the NVR's performance, regularly clean the exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Ensure the ventilation openings are free from dust and obstructions.
