3. Setup
3.1 Initial Charging
As a solar-powered watch, the SSC947 requires exposure to light to charge its internal power cell. Upon first use or after prolonged storage in darkness, place the watch under direct sunlight or strong artificial light for several hours. Ensure the dial is facing the light source. A fully charged watch can operate for approximately 6 months in darkness.
3.2 Setting Time and Date
- Pull out the crown: Gently pull the crown (located at the 3 o'clock position) out to the second click. The second hand will stop.
- Set the time: Rotate the crown to set the hour and minute hands. To ensure the AM/PM is correctly set, advance the hands past 12 o'clock; if the date changes, it is midnight.
- Set the date: Push the crown in to the first click. Rotate the crown to set the date.
- Push in the crown: Once the time and date are set, push the crown back in to the normal position. The second hand will resume movement.

4. Operating the Watch
4.1 Basic Timekeeping
The main hands display the current hour, minute, and second. The small sub-dial at the 9 o'clock position indicates the running seconds of the main timekeeping. The sub-dial at 3 o'clock displays a 24-hour indicator, synchronized with the main hour hand.
4.2 Using the Chronograph
The chronograph function allows for precise measurement of elapsed time.
- Start: Press the upper pusher (A) to start the chronograph. The chronograph second hand (large central hand) and the 60-minute sub-dial (at 6 o'clock) will begin to move.
- Stop: Press the upper pusher (A) again to stop the chronograph. The elapsed time will be indicated by the chronograph second hand and the 60-minute sub-dial.
- Reset: After stopping, press the lower pusher (B) to reset the chronograph. All chronograph hands will return to their zero positions.
- Split Time: To measure split times, press the lower pusher (B) while the chronograph is running. The chronograph hands will stop to indicate the split time. Press (B) again to resume measurement.
4.3 Tachymeter Scale
The tachymeter scale on the bezel can be used to calculate speed (km/h or miles/h) over a known distance (e.g., 1 km or 1 mile). Start the chronograph at the beginning of the distance and stop it at the end. The number on the tachymeter scale corresponding to the chronograph second hand's position indicates the average speed.

5. Maintenance and Care
5.1 Cleaning
Wipe the watch regularly with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and fingerprints. For metal bracelets, a soft brush with mild soapy water can be used, followed by thorough rinsing and drying. Ensure the crown is pushed in before cleaning with water.
5.2 Water Resistance
The SSC947 watch is water-resistant up to 10 bar (100 meters). This rating makes it suitable for swimming, showering, and snorkeling. However, avoid operating the crown or pushers while the watch is wet or submerged to prevent water intrusion.
5.3 Storage
When not in use, store the watch in a well-lit area to ensure it remains charged. Avoid extreme temperatures, direct sunlight for prolonged periods (which can cause fading), and strong magnetic fields.

6. Troubleshooting
- Watch not running: Ensure the watch has been sufficiently exposed to light for charging. If it still does not run, it may require professional inspection.
- Time/Date incorrect: Refer to Section 3.2 for instructions on how to correctly set the time and date.
- Chronograph hands not resetting to zero: If the chronograph hands do not return to their 12 o'clock positions after reset, a zero-position adjustment may be needed. Consult a SEIKO service center for this procedure.
