3. Safety Precautions

  • If the input voltage exceeds 36V, always turn the ON/OFF switch to OFF before connecting wires, then turn it ON to prevent arcing.
  • This is a step-down power supply; the output voltage must always be lower than the input voltage.
  • Under natural heat dissipation, the power should not exceed 400W and the current should not exceed 15A. If the output voltage is high and the input-output voltage difference is large, reduce the current.
  • For currents exceeding 15A or power exceeding 400W, additional fan cooling is required.
  • The module's current detection is low-end. Do not directly short circuit the input negative pole and output negative pole with wires. This can bypass constant current protection and damage the power supply or connected equipment.
  • When charging batteries or connecting to inductive loads (e.g., motors), external anti-backflow diodes are necessary as the module does not have built-in output anti-backflow protection.

4. Setup and Assembly

The module typically comes with an acrylic casing for protection. Follow these general steps for assembly and initial connection:

  1. Carefully remove any protective films from the acrylic casing pieces.
  2. Mount the buck converter module onto the bottom acrylic plate using the provided standoffs and screws.
  3. Attach the top acrylic plate, ensuring all components are properly aligned and secured.
  4. Connect the input power source to the 'IN+' and 'IN-' terminals. Ensure correct polarity.
  5. Connect your load to the 'OUT+' and 'OUT-' terminals.

Assembly and Operation Video

5. Operating Instructions

Voltage Adjustment:

To adjust the output voltage, use a flat screwdriver to turn the blue potentiometer labeled for voltage regulation on the power panel. Turning clockwise increases the voltage, and turning counter-clockwise decreases it. Monitor the output voltage with a multimeter or the module's display.

Current Adjustment:

To adjust the output constant current:

  1. Set your multimeter or ammeter to the 20A or 10A current range.
  2. Adjust the power supply voltage to 5V.
  3. Turn the constant current potentiometer counter-clockwise for approximately 10 full turns to set the current to its minimum value.
  4. Use the multimeter to short circuit the output terminals (OUT+ and OUT-).
  5. Slowly turn the constant current potentiometer clockwise to adjust the current to your desired value.

Note: The current detection is low-end. Avoid directly short-circuiting the input negative pole and output negative pole with wires, as this can bypass constant current protection and potentially damage the power supply or connected electrical equipment.

Display Modes:

The module features a display that can show various parameters. Use the buttons to cycle through display modes:

  • F0: Displays Output Voltage.
  • F1: Displays Input Voltage.
  • F2: Alternately displays Output and Input Voltage.
  • ON/OFF Switch: Toggles the output power on or off.

6. Troubleshooting

  • No Output Voltage: Ensure the input voltage is within the specified range (12-95V) and the ON/OFF switch is in the ON position. Verify connections for correct polarity.
  • Output Voltage Not Adjustable: Confirm that the input voltage is at least 2V higher than the desired output voltage, as this is a step-down converter.
  • Overheating: If the module becomes excessively hot, ensure the load does not exceed 400W or 15A under natural heat dissipation. Consider adding a cooling fan if operating near maximum limits or in high ambient temperatures.
  • Damage from Reverse Current: If charging batteries or using inductive loads, install an external anti-backflow diode on the output to prevent reverse current flow into the module.
  • Incorrect Current Reading/Adjustment: Ensure the multimeter is correctly set for current measurement and that the output negative pole is not directly shorted to the input negative pole, which can interfere with current sensing.

7. Included Components

  • 1 x 500W 15A DC-DC Buck Converter Module
