Introduction
The Orange Oriverb is a 50/25-watt tube combo amplifier designed in collaboration with Orianthi. This amplifier features two 12-inch Celestion Creamback speakers, an EL34-fueled power section, and a rugged 15mm Baltic birch plywood enclosure. It incorporates a spring reverb, a tube-buffered effects loop, and a built-in attenuator, providing a versatile platform for various musical styles and performance environments.
Setup
1. Unpacking and Placement
Carefully remove the amplifier from its packaging. Inspect the unit for any signs of damage that may have occurred during shipping. Place the amplifier on a stable, level surface, ensuring adequate ventilation around the unit to prevent overheating.
2. Power Connection
Ensure the amplifier's power switch is in the 'OFF' position. Connect the supplied AC power cable to the amplifier's power input socket on the rear panel, then plug the other end into a grounded electrical outlet. Use only the power cable provided or a suitable replacement with proper grounding.
3. Instrument Connection
Connect your instrument (e.g., guitar) to the 'INPUT' jack located on the front panel of the amplifier using a high-quality instrument cable.
4. Initial Power-Up
With all connections secure, switch the amplifier's main power to 'ON'. Allow a brief warm-up period (approximately 30-60 seconds) for the tubes. If your amplifier has a 'STANDBY' switch, engage it after the warm-up period. Gradually increase the volume controls to your desired level.
Operating Instructions
Front Panel Controls Overview

- INPUT: Connect your instrument here.
- CLEAN CHANNEL CONTROLS:
- VOLUME: Adjusts the overall output level of the clean channel.
- BASS, MIDDLE, TREBLE: Three-band equalizer for shaping the clean tone.
- DIRTY CHANNEL CONTROLS:
- GAIN: Controls the amount of overdrive/distortion.
- VOLUME: Adjusts the overall output level of the dirty channel.
- BASS, MIDDLE, TREBLE: Three-band equalizer for shaping the dirty tone.
- REVERB: Controls the intensity of the built-in spring reverb effect.
- ATTENUATOR: Selects between 50-watt and 25-watt output power. This allows you to achieve desired tube saturation at lower volume levels.
- CHANNEL SWITCH: Toggles between the Clean and Dirty channels.
Rear Panel Controls and Connections

- EFFECTS LOOP (SEND/RETURN): Connect external effects pedals or processors here. The 'SEND' jack outputs the signal to your effects unit, and the 'RETURN' jack receives the processed signal back into the amplifier.
- SPEAKER OUTPUTS: For connecting external speaker cabinets. Ensure the impedance of the external cabinet matches the amplifier's specified output impedance.
- POWER INPUT: For connecting the AC power cable.
- POWER SWITCH: Turns the main power to the amplifier ON or OFF.
- STANDBY SWITCH: (If present) Engages or disengages the high voltage to the tubes. Use this switch to warm up tubes before playing and to prolong tube life during short breaks.
Maintenance
Cleaning
Wipe the amplifier's exterior with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, solvents, or excessive moisture, as these can damage the Tolex finish and internal components.
Tube Care and Replacement
Vacuum tubes are consumable components with a finite lifespan. Signs of failing tubes include reduced output, excessive noise, or inconsistent tone. Tube replacement should ideally be performed by a qualified technician. If replacing tubes yourself, ensure the amplifier is unplugged and allowed to cool completely. Always use high-quality, matched replacement tubes as specified by Orange Amplification for optimal performance and safety.
Storage
When not in use, store the amplifier in a dry, temperature-controlled environment, away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity. Using a protective cover can help prevent dust accumulation.
Troubleshooting
- No Sound:
- Ensure the amplifier is powered on and the 'STANDBY' switch (if present) is engaged.
- Check all cable connections: power, instrument, and any external speaker cables.
- Verify that your instrument is working correctly and its volume is turned up.
- Check the amplifier's volume controls and ensure they are not set to zero.
- Excessive Hum or Noise:
- Ensure the amplifier is connected to a properly grounded power outlet.
- Try a different power outlet or circuit.
- Check instrument cables for damage or poor shielding.
- Move the amplifier away from other electronic devices (e.g., computers, fluorescent lights) that may cause interference.
- Distorted or Weak Sound:
- This can indicate failing vacuum tubes. Consult a qualified technician for tube inspection and replacement.
- Ensure speaker connections are secure and the correct impedance is selected (if applicable).
- Check your instrument's output and battery (if active pickups are used).
- Effects Loop Not Working:
- Ensure your effects pedals are powered on and connected correctly to the 'SEND' and 'RETURN' jacks.
- Test the effects pedals independently to confirm they are functioning.
- Bypass the effects loop by connecting your instrument directly to the amplifier's input to determine if the issue lies with the effects unit or the loop itself.
