4. Safety Information
- Always turn off power at the main power source by unscrewing the fuse or switching the circuit breaker to the OFF position before installing, removing, cleaning, or servicing this thermostat.
- Read all information in this manual before installing or programming this thermostat.
- Before removing the old thermostat, please label the wires with the supplied wire labels.
5. Setup and Installation
Follow these steps for proper installation:
- Step 1: Turn off power. Locate your heating/cooling system's circuit breaker or fuse box and turn off the power to the system. Verify the power is off by attempting to operate the old thermostat.
- Step 2: Remove old thermostat. Carefully remove the cover of your old thermostat. Take a picture of the wiring for reference. Disconnect the wires, leaving the wallplate attached.
- Step 3: Label wires. Use the provided wire labels to clearly mark each wire according to its terminal designation before disconnecting them from the old thermostat.
- Step 4: Mount new wallplate. Remove the old thermostat's wallplate. Mount the new Riseem thermostat wallplate to the wall using the included screws and anchors.
- Step 5: Connect wires. Connect the labeled wires to the corresponding terminals on the new thermostat's wallplate. Ensure a secure connection. If you have both RH and RC wires, remove the metal jumper wire.
5.1 Terminal Designations
| Terminal | Description |
|---|---|
| C | Common 24VAC (system power supply) |
| O | Reverse Valve Cool |
| B | Reverse Valve Heat |
| W | Heat |
| RH | 24VAC (system power supply) - Heat = RH to W |
| RC | Cool = RC to Y, Fan = RC to G |
| G | Fan |
| Y | Cool |
5.2 Power Supply
The thermostat can be powered by either 24VAC power or 2 AAA batteries. A common wire (C-wire) is not required on most systems, but it is necessary for heat-only and cool-only systems when not using batteries. If a C-wire is available, the batteries provide a backup power source in case of an outage.

6. Operating Instructions
6.1 Controls and Display
The thermostat features a clear, easy-to-read backlight LCD display and simple controls:
- Up/Down Buttons: Adjust the set temperature.
- FAN Switch: Select between ON (fan runs continuously) and AUTO (fan runs only when heating/cooling system is active).
- SYSTEM Switch: Select between COOL, OFF, and HEAT modes.
- LCD Display: Shows current temperature, set temperature, system mode, fan status, and low battery indicator.
6.2 Basic Operation
- Set System Mode: Move the SYSTEM switch to HEAT, COOL, or OFF as desired.
- Set Fan Mode: Move the FAN switch to AUTO for automatic operation or ON for continuous fan operation.
- Adjust Temperature: Use the Up and Down buttons to set your desired temperature. The thermostat will maintain this temperature.
6.3 Advanced Settings
- Temperature Differential (Swing): This setting determines how much the temperature can vary from your set point before the system turns on. It is adjustable for both heating and cooling from 0.2°F to 2.0°F. The factory default is 0.5°F for cooling and 0.4°F for heating. Adjusting this can optimize energy use and system life.
- Temperature Display Calibration: The thermostat supports calibration of the displayed room temperature for accuracy. Refer to the full operating manual for specific steps.
- °C/°F Unit Conversion: You can switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius display units.
- Compressor Delay Protection: This feature protects your compressor by delaying its restart for approximately 3 minutes after it has been turned off. This can be selected ON or OFF.

7. Maintenance
7.1 Battery Replacement
When the 2 AAA batteries are low, a low battery indicator will appear on the LCD display. To replace the batteries:
- Open the easy-access front-load battery compartment door.
- Remove the old AAA alkaline batteries.
- Insert two new AAA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
- Close the battery compartment door.
Note: Batteries are not supplied with the thermostat.
8. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your thermostat, consider the following common solutions:
- No Display/Thermostat Not Responding: Check if the power to your HVAC system is on. If using batteries, ensure they are new and correctly installed.
- System Not Heating/Cooling: Verify the SYSTEM switch is set to HEAT or COOL. Check the set temperature to ensure it is above (for heat) or below (for cool) the current room temperature. Allow for the 3-minute compressor delay if applicable.
- Fan Not Running: Ensure the FAN switch is set to ON or AUTO. If set to AUTO, the fan will only run when the heating or cooling system is active.
- Inaccurate Temperature Reading: The thermostat supports temperature display calibration. Refer to the operating manual for instructions on how to adjust this setting.
- Thermostat Does Not Turn On/Off at Set Point: Check the temperature differential (swing) setting. A larger swing means the system will wait for a greater temperature difference before activating.
For more complex issues, consult a qualified HVAC technician.
