5. Setup

5.1 Power Connection

Your SCD7800 can be powered by either the supplied AC adapter or batteries.

• AC Power: Connect the supplied AC power adapter to the AC power input jack on the rear of the unit (refer to Figure 4.2) and then plug the adapter into a standard wall outlet.
• Battery Power: For portable use, open the battery compartment on the bottom of the unit. Insert 6 x UM-2/C 1.5V batteries (not included), ensuring correct polarity (+/-). Close the battery compartment securely.

5.2 Antenna

For optimal radio reception, fully extend the telescopic antenna (refer to Figure 4.2) when listening to DAB+ or FM radio. Adjust its position for the best signal quality.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Power On/Off and Mode Selection

• Press the POWER button to turn the unit on or off.
• Press the MODE button repeatedly to cycle through available functions: DAB+, FM, CD, USB, Cassette. The selected mode will be shown on the LCD display.

6.2 Radio Operation (DAB+ / FM)

• Select DAB+ or FM mode using the MODE button.
• Auto Scan: In DAB+ mode, the unit will typically perform an auto scan upon first use to find available stations. In FM mode, press and hold the SCAN button to automatically search for and store strong stations.
• Manual Tuning: Use the TUNE +/- buttons to manually adjust the frequency.
• Preset Stations: The unit supports 30 preset stations for both DAB+ and FM. To store a station, tune to the desired station, press and hold the PRESET button, select a preset number using TUNE +/-, and press PRESET again to confirm. To recall a preset, press the PRESET button, then use TUNE +/- to select the desired preset.

6.3 CD Playback

• Open the CD compartment cover.
• Place a CD (CD, CD-R/RW, or CD-MP3) onto the spindle with the label side facing up.
• Close the CD compartment cover.
• Select CD mode. The CD will begin playing automatically.
• Play/Pause: Press the PLAY/PAUSE button.
• Stop: Press the STOP button.
• Skip Tracks: Press the SKIP +/- buttons to go to the next or previous track.
• Fast Forward/Rewind: Press and hold the SKIP +/- buttons during playback.
• Repeat Function: Press the REPEAT button to repeat the current track or all tracks.
• Random Play: Press the RANDOM button for shuffled playback.
• Program Play: In STOP mode, press the PROGRAM button to select and arrange tracks in a desired order.

6.4 Cassette Playback and Recording

• Open the cassette compartment.
• Insert a cassette tape.
• Select CASSETTE mode.
• Playback: Press the PLAY button.
• Stop/Eject: Press the STOP/EJECT button.
• Fast Forward/Rewind: Use the FF/REW buttons.
• Recording: To record from Radio or USB, select the desired source (DAB+, FM, or USB). Insert a blank cassette. Press the RECORD button on the cassette deck. The unit will begin recording the audio from the selected source. Press STOP to end recording.

6.5 USB Playback and Recording

• Insert a USB flash drive into the USB port (refer to Figure 4.2).
• Select USB mode. The unit will automatically detect and begin playing MP3 files from the USB drive.
• Playback controls (Play/Pause, Stop, Skip, Repeat, Random, Program) are similar to CD playback.
• Recording to Cassette from USB: Follow the recording instructions in section 6.4, ensuring USB is selected as the source.

6.6 Alarm Function

• The SCD7800 features two adjustable alarms.
• Setting Alarm: Press and hold the ALARM SET button. Use the TUNE +/- buttons to set the alarm time, then press ALARM SET to confirm. Select the alarm source (CD, Radio, USB, or Buzzer) and volume level.
• Snooze Function: When the alarm sounds, press the SNOOZE button to temporarily silence it. The alarm will sound again after a short interval.
• Disable Alarm: Press the ALARM OFF button.

6.7 Headphone Use

Connect 3.5mm stereo headphones to the headphone jack on the rear of the unit (refer to Figure 4.2) for private listening. The internal speakers will be muted automatically.

7. Maintenance

• Cleaning: Wipe the unit with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
• CD Lens Care: Periodically clean the CD lens with a specialized CD lens cleaner disc.
• Cassette Head Cleaning: Use a cassette head cleaning kit to maintain optimal sound quality for cassette playback and recording.
• Battery Replacement: Replace all batteries simultaneously with new ones when the unit's performance degrades or if the battery indicator appears (if available). Remove batteries if the unit will not be used for an extended period.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your SCD7800, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

• No Power:
  • Ensure the AC adapter is securely connected to both the unit and a working power outlet.
  • If using batteries, check if they are inserted correctly and are not depleted. Replace if necessary.
• No Sound:
  • Adjust the volume level.
  • Check if headphones are connected; unplug them if you want sound from the speakers.
  • Ensure the correct mode (CD, Radio, USB, Cassette) is selected.
• Poor Radio Reception:
  • Fully extend and adjust the telescopic antenna.
  • Try moving the unit to a different location, away from potential interference sources (e.g., other electronic devices).
  • Perform an auto scan for DAB+ or FM stations again.
• CD/Cassette/USB Not Playing:
  • Ensure the media (CD, cassette, USB drive) is inserted correctly and is not damaged.
  • For CDs, check if it's a supported format (CD, CD-R/RW, CD-MP3).
  • For USB, ensure it contains compatible audio files (MP3) and is formatted correctly.
  • Clean the CD lens or cassette heads if necessary.
• Alarm Not Working:
  • Verify that the alarm time is set correctly and the alarm is activated.
  • Check the alarm source (CD, Radio, USB, Buzzer) and ensure the selected source is available and functioning.
