3. Setup

3.1 Assembly

The Weytoll mini chainsaw is designed for quick and easy assembly. Follow these general steps for initial setup and chain installation:

  1. Unpack Components: Carefully remove all items from the toolbox.
  2. Install Guide Plate and Chain: Place the chain around the guide plate, ensuring the cutting edges face the correct direction.
  3. Mount to Chainsaw Body: Align the guide plate and chain with the chainsaw's drive sprocket and mounting studs.
  4. Adjust Chain Tension: Use the chain one-click adjustment knob (red knob) to set the proper chain tension. The chain should be snug but still able to be pulled freely by hand. Refer to the markings on the chainsaw body for tensioning direction.
  5. Secure Cover: Reattach and secure the side cover.
  6. Lubricate Chain: Before first use, and regularly thereafter, apply bar and chain oil to the chain and guide bar. The included oil pot is for this purpose (oil not included).

3.2 Battery Charging and Installation

The chainsaw operates on a 68VF rechargeable lithium battery. Proper charging and installation are crucial for performance and safety.

  1. Charging: Connect the charger to a standard power outlet and then to the battery. The indicator light on the charger will show the charging status. Charge fully before first use.
  2. Installation: Slide the charged battery into the battery slot on the bottom of the chainsaw handle until it clicks securely into place.
  3. Removal: To remove the battery, press the release button (if present) and slide the battery out.

4.2 Cutting Techniques

Always prioritize safety and proper technique when cutting.

  • Assess the Cut: Before cutting, evaluate the branch or wood piece. Identify potential kickback points or areas where the wood might pinch the chain.
  • Maintain Control: Keep a firm grip and maintain balance. Let the chainsaw do the work; do not force it.
  • Avoid Kickback: Be aware of the kickback zone (the upper quadrant of the guide bar tip). Avoid contact with this area.
  • Small Branches: For small branches, make a single cut from the top.
  • Larger Branches: For thicker branches, make an undercut first (about 1/3 of the way through) to prevent splintering, then finish the cut from the top.
  • Wood Cutting: When cutting logs, ensure they are stable and cannot roll.
  • Battery Life: Monitor battery charge. Stop and recharge when power diminishes to avoid strain on the tool.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your chainsaw.

  • Cleaning: After each use, clean the chainsaw thoroughly. Remove sawdust, debris, and resin from the guide bar, chain, and motor housing. Use a brush or compressed air.
  • Chain Lubrication: Regularly apply bar and chain oil to the chain and guide bar. This reduces friction, prevents overheating, and extends chain life. The oil pot provided is for this purpose.
  • Chain Tension: Check chain tension frequently. A loose chain can derail, and an overly tight chain can cause excessive wear and reduce performance. Adjust using the chain adjustment knob.
  • Chain Sharpening/Replacement: A dull chain will cut poorly and increase effort. Sharpen the chain as needed or replace it with a new one when it becomes too worn or damaged.
  • Battery Care: Store batteries in a cool, dry place. Do not store fully discharged or fully charged for extended periods. Charge them periodically if not in use.
  • General Inspection: Periodically inspect all screws, nuts, and bolts to ensure they are tight. Check for any damaged parts and replace them if necessary.

5.1 Storage

When not in use, store the chainsaw in a dry, secure location out of reach of children. Ensure the battery is removed for long-term storage.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your chainsaw, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • Chainsaw Not Starting:
    • Ensure the battery is fully charged and properly installed.
    • Verify the safety lock button is pressed before engaging the trigger.
    • Check for any obstructions around the chain or guide bar.
  • Poor Cutting Performance:
    • Check if the chain is dull and requires sharpening or replacement.
    • Ensure the chain tension is correct.
    • Verify the chain is installed in the correct cutting direction.
    • Ensure adequate lubrication of the chain and guide bar.
  • Battery Not Charging:
    • Check if the charger is properly connected to the power outlet and the battery.
    • Ensure the power outlet is functional.
    • Inspect the charger and battery for any visible damage.
  • Excessive Vibration or Noise:
    • Check chain tension; it might be too loose.
    • Inspect the chain and guide bar for damage or wear.
    • Ensure all components are securely fastened.

If the issue persists after attempting these steps, please contact Weytoll customer support for further assistance.
