6.2 Adjusting Volume
Rotate the Volume/Power Knob clockwise to increase volume and counter-clockwise to decrease volume.
6.3 Channel Selection
Use the Up/Down Arrow Buttons on the keypad to select one of the 22 FRS channels. Ensure all radios in your group are set to the same channel for communication.
6.4 Privacy Codes (CTCSS/DCS)
To minimize interference from other users on the same channel, you can set a privacy code. The FR-22A supports 50 CTCSS (Continuous Tone-Coded Squelch System) and 105 DCS (Digitally Coded Squelch) codes. Refer to the full manual for detailed instructions on setting these codes. All radios in your group must use the same channel and privacy code to communicate.
6.5 Transmitting and Receiving
- To Transmit: Press and hold the Push-to-Talk (PTT) button on the side of the radio. Speak clearly into the microphone. Release the PTT button to stop transmitting.
- To Receive: Ensure the PTT button is not pressed. The radio will automatically receive transmissions on the selected channel.
6.6 NOAA Weather Alert
The radio can scan 12 NOAA weather channels and provide alerts for severe weather conditions. To activate the weather alert function, navigate to the weather channel mode (consult the full manual for specific button presses). When enabled, the radio will sound an alarm if a weather alert is broadcast, providing critical safety information.
6.7 VOX Hands-Free Operation
The VOX (Voice Operated Exchange) function allows you to transmit without pressing the PTT button. When VOX is enabled, the radio will automatically transmit when it detects your voice. Adjust the VOX sensitivity level in the menu to prevent accidental transmissions or missed words. (Refer to the full manual for VOX activation and sensitivity settings).
6.8 Keypad Lock
To prevent accidental changes to your settings, activate the keypad lock. Typically, this is done by pressing and holding a specific key (e.g., the '#' key). A key icon will appear on the display when locked. Repeat the action to unlock.
6.9 Flashlight Function
The built-in flashlight can be activated by pressing a dedicated button or a combination of keys (consult the full manual for specific instructions). Press again to turn it off.
6.10 Dual Monitor Mode
This feature allows the radio to monitor two different channels simultaneously. If activity is detected on either channel, the radio will switch to that channel. (Refer to the full manual for activation and configuration).
6.11 Channel Scan
The channel scan function allows the radio to automatically scan through all available FRS channels to find active transmissions. To activate, press the scan button (or a specific key combination). The radio will stop on an active channel and resume scanning after a few seconds of inactivity. (Refer to the full manual for scan activation).
7. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the radio with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Battery Care: For optimal battery life, avoid fully discharging the rechargeable battery frequently. Store the radio and battery in a cool, dry place when not in use for extended periods.
- Storage: If storing the radio for a long time, remove the rechargeable battery pack.
