1. Introduction

The Nova Star VX1000 is an advanced all-in-one controller designed for LED display applications. It seamlessly integrates video processing and video control functionalities into a single unit, making it suitable for a wide range of uses including medium to high-end rental, stage control systems, and fine-pitch LED display installations.

2. Safety Information

  • Power Supply: Use only the specified power supply voltage (100-240V AC, 50/60Hz). Ensure the power cord is securely connected and not damaged.
  • Ventilation: Do not block ventilation openings. Ensure adequate airflow around the unit to prevent overheating.
  • Environment: Operate the device in a dry, well-ventilated area. Avoid exposure to moisture, dust, and extreme temperatures.
  • Servicing: Do not attempt to service the unit yourself. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel.

4. Product Overview

4.1 Front Panel

The front panel of the VX1000 provides access to the main control interface, including the LCD display, navigation knob, and various function buttons for input selection, scaling, and preset management.

  • LCD Display: Shows current status, menu options, and system information.
  • MENU Button: Accesses the main menu.
  • ESC Button: Exits current menu or cancels an operation.
  • Navigation Knob: Used for scrolling through menus and adjusting parameters. Press to confirm selection.
  • CONTROL Section: Buttons for MAIN, PIP/1, PIP/2, SCALE.
  • INPUTS Section: Buttons for selecting input sources (HDMI 1-2, DVI 1-2, SDI, OPT 1-2, MOSAIC).
  • FUNCTION Section: Buttons for PRESET, TEST, FREEZE, FN.

4.2 Rear Panel

The rear panel houses all the input and output connectors, as well as the power inlet and control ports.

  • ETHERNET Ports: 10 Gigabit Ethernet output ports for connecting to LED display receiving cards.
  • CONTROL Ports: USB and Ethernet ports for PC control and firmware updates.
  • GENLOCK: Input and Loop-through for synchronization.
  • INPUT Ports: HDMI 1.4 (IN & LOOP), HDMI 1.4, DVI (IN & LOOP), DVI, 3G-SDI (IN & LOOP), 10G Optical Fiber (OPT1).
  • OUTPUT Ports: 2x Fiber outputs (OPT1, OPT2), 1x HDMI 1.3 (for monitoring).
  • Power Inlet: AC power input (100-240V, 50/60Hz) with ON/OFF switch.

5. Setup

5.1 Unpacking and Placement

  1. Carefully remove the VX1000 from its packaging.
  2. Place the unit on a stable, flat surface or install it in a standard 19-inch rack.
  3. Ensure there is sufficient space around the unit for proper ventilation (at least 10 cm on all sides).

5.2 Connecting Power

  1. Connect the provided AC power cable to the power inlet on the rear panel of the VX1000.
  2. Plug the other end of the power cable into a grounded electrical outlet.
  3. Ensure the power switch on the rear panel is in the OFF position before connecting.

5.3 Input Connections

Connect your video sources to the appropriate input ports on the rear panel.

  • HDMI/DVI: Use high-quality HDMI or DVI cables to connect your video sources (e.g., media players, computers) to the HDMI IN or DVI IN ports.
  • 3G-SDI: For professional video equipment, connect via the 3G-SDI IN port.
  • Optical Fiber (OPT1): Connect compatible optical fiber sources to the OPT1 port. Remember that OPT1 is self-adaptive and can also function as an output.

5.4 Output Connections

Connect the VX1000 to your LED display and monitoring equipment.

  • Ethernet Outputs: Connect the 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports to the receiving cards of your LED display panels using standard Ethernet cables.
  • Fiber Outputs (OPT1/OPT2): Use optical fiber cables to connect to long-distance LED display systems or for backup purposes. OPT1 mirrors the 10 Ethernet ports, while OPT2 can copy or back up the 10 Ethernet ports.
  • HDMI Monitor Output: Connect an HDMI display to the HDMI 1.3 OUT port for real-time monitoring of the output signal.

5.5 Control Connections

For advanced configuration and control, connect the VX1000 to a computer.

  • USB Control: Connect a USB cable from your computer to the USB control port on the VX1000.
  • Ethernet Control: Connect an Ethernet cable from your computer to the Ethernet control port for network-based control.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Powering On/Off

  1. After all connections are made, flip the power switch on the rear panel to the ON position. The LCD display on the front panel will light up.
  2. To power off, flip the power switch to the OFF position.

6.2 Basic Navigation

  • Use the MENU button to enter the main menu.
  • Rotate the Navigation Knob to scroll through menu options or adjust values.
  • Press the Navigation Knob to confirm a selection or enter a sub-menu.
  • Use the ESC button to go back to the previous menu or exit the current operation.

6.3 Input Source Selection

Press the corresponding input button (e.g., HDMI 1, DVI 2, SDI) on the front panel to switch between video sources. The selected input will be displayed on the LCD screen.

6.4 Output Configuration

The VX1000 allows for detailed configuration of the LED display output. This typically involves:

  • Screen Configuration: Setting up the resolution, refresh rate, and physical layout of your LED display panels. This is usually done via the control software on a connected PC.
  • Pixel Mapping: Defining how the input video signal is mapped to the physical pixels of the LED display.
  • Scaling: Adjusting the input video resolution to fit the output resolution of the LED display. Use the SCALE button on the front panel or the software for precise adjustments.

6.5 Audio Management

If your input source includes audio via HDMI, the VX1000 can process and output this audio. Adjust the output volume through the menu system.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning

  • Always power off and disconnect the VX1000 from the power source before cleaning.
  • Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior surfaces.
  • Do not use liquid cleaners, aerosols, or solvents, as they may damage the finish or internal components.

7.2 Ventilation

Regularly check that the ventilation openings are clear of dust and obstructions to ensure proper heat dissipation.

7.3 Storage

If storing the unit for an extended period, ensure it is kept in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. It is recommended to use the original packaging for storage.

8. Troubleshooting

This section provides solutions to common issues you might encounter with the VX1000.

8.1 No Power

  • Check Power Cable: Ensure the power cable is securely connected to both the VX1000 and the power outlet.
  • Power Switch: Verify that the power switch on the rear panel is in the ON position.
  • Power Outlet: Test the power outlet with another device to confirm it is functional.

8.2 No Video Output on LED Display

  • Input Source: Confirm that an input source is connected and active, and that the correct input is selected on the VX1000.
  • Ethernet Cables: Check all Ethernet connections between the VX1000 and the LED display receiving cards.
  • Display Configuration: Ensure the LED display's configuration (resolution, pixel mapping) is correctly set up, usually via the control software.
  • Fiber Connections: If using fiber outputs, verify the fiber cables are correctly connected and not damaged.

8.3 Input Signal Issues (e.g., flickering, no signal)

  • Cable Quality: Use high-quality, certified HDMI, DVI, or SDI cables.
  • Cable Length: Ensure cable lengths are within recommended specifications to avoid signal degradation.
  • Source Resolution: Verify that the input source resolution is supported by the VX1000.

8.4 Control Software Not Connecting

  • USB/Ethernet Connection: Check the physical connection between the computer and the VX1000's control ports.
  • Driver Installation: Ensure all necessary drivers for the VX1000 are installed on your computer.
  • Network Settings: If using Ethernet control, verify IP address settings and network connectivity.
