5. Setup
5.1 Charging the Battery
The BSIDE S8 is powered by a built-in 3.7V lithium battery (400mAh). Before first use, or when the battery indicator shows low power, charge the device using the provided USB cable.
- Connect the small end of the USB cable to the charging port on the multimeter.
- Connect the standard USB end to a USB power adapter (not included) or a computer's USB port.
- The charging indicator on the multimeter will show the charging status. Once fully charged, disconnect the cable.
5.2 Connecting Test Leads
For most measurements, the test leads need to be connected to the appropriate input jacks.
- Insert the black test lead into the "COM" (Common) jack.
- Insert the red test lead into the "INPUT" jack for most voltage, resistance, capacitance, and diode measurements.
- For specific leakage voltage measurements, refer to the "LEAKAGE VOLTAGE" jack instructions in the operating section.
6. Operating Instructions
6.1 Power On/Off
Press the Power button (usually marked with ⓘ) to turn the multimeter on or off.
6.2 Intelligent Auto Recognition Mode
The BSIDE S8 features an intelligent mode that automatically identifies the measurement type (e.g., AC/DC voltage, resistance, continuity) and selects the appropriate range. This is the default mode upon power-on.
6.3 Function Switching
Press the SEL button to cycle through different measurement functions if the automatic mode does not select the desired function, or for specific manual selections (e.g., AC vs. DC voltage in some contexts, or specific diode/capacitance modes).
6.4 Basic Measurements
- Voltage Measurement (AC/DC):
In intelligent mode, connect the test leads across the circuit or component to measure voltage. The multimeter will automatically detect AC or DC voltage and display the reading.
- Resistance Measurement:
Ensure the circuit is de-energized. Connect the test leads across the component to measure resistance. The multimeter will automatically display the resistance value.
- Continuity Test:
Ensure the circuit is de-energized. Connect the test leads across the circuit or component. A low resistance (typically below 50 ohms) will trigger an audible beep, indicating continuity.
6.5 Advanced Functions
- Non-Contact Voltage (NCV) Detection:
The NCV function allows detection of AC voltage without direct contact. Hold the top end of the multimeter near a live wire or outlet. The device will indicate the presence of voltage through visual and/or audible alerts.

Figure 6.1: The BSIDE S8 performing various measurements, including Capacitance, Diode, Neutral Live Wire judgment, and Non-Contact Voltage (NCV) detection.
- Leakage Voltage Detection:
To detect voltage leakage, press and hold the GND button while using the appropriate test lead. The display will show the accurate leakage voltage value.

Figure 6.2: A hand operating the BSIDE S8 multimeter, demonstrating voltage leakage detection by pressing and holding the GND button to obtain an accurate display value.
- Capacitance Measurement:
Ensure the capacitor is fully discharged before testing. Connect the test leads across the capacitor terminals. The multimeter will display the capacitance value.
- Diode Test:
Connect the test leads across the diode. The multimeter will display the forward voltage drop for a good diode. Reverse the leads to check for open circuit.
- Neutral Live Wire Judgment:
This function helps distinguish between live and neutral wires. Follow the on-screen prompts or specific instructions for this mode.
- Breakpoint Judgment:
Utilize the NCV function to detect breaks in wires. Move the multimeter along the wire; a change in NCV indication can pinpoint a break.

Figure 6.3: The BSIDE S8 demonstrating breakpoint judgment using NCV, frequency measurement (Hz), and automatic display of ambient temperature.
- Frequency Measurement (Hz):
Connect the test leads to the circuit to measure the frequency of an AC signal.
- Ambient Temperature Display:
The multimeter can automatically display the ambient temperature.
6.6 Flashlight Function
Press the Flashlight button (often integrated with the temperature unit switch) to turn the built-in flashlight on or off. This is useful for illuminating dark work areas.

7. Maintenance
7.1 Cleaning
Wipe the case with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasives or solvents. Keep the display clean for optimal readability.
7.2 Storage
When not in use, store the multimeter and its accessories in the provided storage bag in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for extended periods, ensure the battery is partially charged and recharge periodically to maintain battery health.
7.3 Battery Care
The device uses a rechargeable lithium battery. Avoid fully discharging the battery frequently. Recharge when the low battery indicator appears. Do not attempt to replace the internal battery yourself; contact customer support if battery issues arise.
8. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Multimeter does not power on. | Battery is discharged. | Charge the battery using the USB cable. |
| Inaccurate readings. | Low battery; incorrect function selected; poor test lead connection. | Ensure battery is charged. Verify correct function or use intelligent mode. Check test lead connections. |
| No NCV detection. | No AC voltage present; NCV sensor not close enough to source. | Confirm AC voltage is present. Move the NCV sensor closer to the live source. |
| Display shows "OL" (Overload). | Measurement exceeds the selected range or multimeter's maximum capacity. | Ensure the measurement is within the device's specifications. In auto-ranging mode, this indicates the value is too high for the device. |
