Operating Instructions

Brewing Espresso

  1. Preheat: Ensure the machine is plugged in and the water tank is filled. Turn the control dial to the coffee brewing position. Wait for the indicator light to show the machine is heated (usually solid green or blue).
  2. Prepare Portafilter: Insert the desired filter basket (single or double) into the portafilter. Add finely ground espresso coffee. Use the measuring spoon to add the correct amount, then tamp firmly with the tamper end of the spoon. Wipe any excess coffee from the rim.
  3. Attach Portafilter: Align the portafilter with the group head on the machine, insert it, and twist firmly to the right until it is securely locked.
  4. Place Cups: Place one or two espresso cups on the drip tray directly under the portafilter spouts.
  5. Brew: Turn the control dial to the coffee brewing position. Coffee will begin to flow. Turn the dial back to the OFF position once the desired amount of espresso is brewed.

Frothing Milk

  1. Prepare Milk: Fill a stainless steel frothing pitcher with cold milk (dairy or non-dairy) to about one-third full.
  2. Heat Steam Nozzle: Turn the control dial to the steam position. Wait for the indicator light to signal that the steam function is ready.
  3. Purge Steam Wand: Before frothing, briefly open the steam valve to release any condensed water. Close the valve.
  4. Froth Milk: Immerse the steam nozzle just below the surface of the milk. Open the steam valve. Move the pitcher up and down slowly to create foam. Once desired foam and temperature are reached, close the steam valve and remove the pitcher.

Care and Maintenance

Daily Cleaning

  • Drip Tray: Empty and clean the drip tray and grid daily. It is removable for easy cleaning.
  • Portafilter and Filter Baskets: After each use, remove coffee grounds and rinse the portafilter and filter baskets under running water.
  • Steam Nozzle: Clean immediately after each use as described in the "Frothing Milk" section.
  • Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.

Descaling

Regular descaling is crucial to maintain optimal performance and extend the lifespan of your espresso machine. The frequency depends on water hardness and usage.

  1. Prepare Descaling Solution: Use a commercial descaling solution specifically designed for coffee machines, following the manufacturer's instructions. Alternatively, a solution of white vinegar and water (1:1 ratio) can be used.
  2. Run Descaling Cycle: Fill the water tank with the descaling solution. Place a large container under the portafilter and steam nozzle. Run half of the solution through the coffee brewing cycle, then switch to the steam function and release steam until half of the remaining solution is gone.
  3. Rinse: Fill the water tank with fresh water and run several full tanks through both the coffee brewing and steam cycles to thoroughly rinse the machine and remove any descaling solution residue.
