1. Product Overview
The HEIMAN Networked Radio Networkable Smoke Detector provides enhanced safety for your home. These intelligent devices communicate wirelessly with each other, ensuring that if one detector senses smoke, all interconnected units will sound an alarm. This feature provides an early warning system, even if the fire source is in a different room. Designed for ease of installation and long-term reliability, the detectors feature a 10-year battery life, minimizing maintenance. For comprehensive protection, it is recommended to install a networked smoke detector in every room, hallway, and on each floor of your property.

4. Setup and Installation
The HEIMAN smoke detector is designed for straightforward installation. Follow these steps for proper setup and interconnection:
4.1. Component Identification

Image 4.1: Key components of the HEIMAN smoke detector.
- Buzzer: Emits the alarm sound.
- Power/Test Mute Button: Used for testing the alarm, muting, and pairing.
- LED Indicator: Provides visual status of the device.
- Smoke Entrance: Where smoke enters the detection chamber.
- Battery: Powered by a 1x CR123A/CR17335 Lithium Battery.
4.2. Mounting the Detector
Choose a suitable location for your smoke detector, typically on the ceiling in central areas, hallways, and bedrooms. Avoid placing near vents, windows, or in kitchens where cooking fumes might cause false alarms.
- Ensure the battery is correctly inserted. The detector should activate upon battery insertion.
- Using the provided screws and wall plugs, securely attach the mounting plate to the ceiling. Alternatively, use the adhesive pad for a tool-free installation on a clean, flat surface.
- Twist the smoke detector unit onto the mounting plate until it clicks into place.
4.3. Interconnecting Multiple Detectors
For a comprehensive safety network, interconnect all your HEIMAN smoke detectors. Up to 40 wireless alarms can be interconnected.

Image 4.2: Visual representation of interconnected smoke detectors.
- Designate a Host Device: Select one smoke detector to be the "Host" or "Master" unit. It is recommended to apply a distinguishing sticker (if provided) to this unit.
- Initiate Pairing on Host: On the designated Host device, press the central button three times quickly, then press and hold it once. The device will beep and its LED will flash, indicating it is in pairing mode.
- Pairing Secondary Devices: For each additional smoke detector you wish to interconnect, press its central button twice quickly, then press and hold it once. The device will beep and flash, confirming successful pairing with the Host.
- Repeat for All Units: Continue this process for all other detectors you want to include in the network. If pairing multiple devices, you may need to re-initiate pairing mode on the Host device after a short period (e.g., 1 minute) if it exits pairing mode.
- Verify Interconnection: After pairing all units, perform a test (see Section 5.1) to ensure all interconnected alarms sound when one is triggered.
Note: The pairing process can be sensitive to timing. If a device does not pair, repeat the steps carefully.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1. Testing the Alarm
It is crucial to test your smoke detectors regularly (e.g., monthly) to ensure they are functioning correctly.
- To test a single unit, press and hold the central Power/Test Mute Button for approximately one second. The alarm will sound, and the LED will flash.
- If units are interconnected, triggering the test on one unit should cause all interconnected units to sound their alarms.
- The alarm sound level is 85 dB.
5.2. Mute Function
The mute function allows you to temporarily silence the alarm in situations where non-emergency smoke (e.g., from cooking) might trigger it.
- When the alarm sounds, press the central Power/Test Mute Button briefly. This will silence the alarm for a temporary period.
- The detector will automatically reset after the mute period or if smoke levels persist or increase.
5.3. LED Indicator Status
The LED indicator provides visual feedback on the detector's status:
- Normal Operation: A brief flash approximately every 53 seconds indicates the detector is functioning correctly.
- Alarm: Rapid flashing and continuous alarm sound.
- Low Battery: The LED will flash along with a chirp sound, indicating the battery needs replacement.
- Pairing Mode: Specific flashing patterns during the interconnection process.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the optimal performance and longevity of your smoke detector.
- Battery Life: The detector is equipped with a 10-year lithium battery. This battery is not user-replaceable. The device will signal when the battery capacity falls below a certain level, indicating the end of its operational life.
- Cleaning: Dust and debris can affect the detector's sensitivity. Gently vacuum the exterior of the detector using a soft brush attachment at least once a month. Do not use cleaning sprays or solvents.
- Testing: Perform a test of the alarm system monthly as described in Section 5.1.
- End of Life: After 10 years from the installation date, the detector should be replaced. The back label of the detector indicates the model and other details.

7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your HEIMAN smoke detector, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Alarm chirps periodically. | Low battery warning. | The battery is designed to last 10 years and is not replaceable. The device has reached its end of life and needs to be replaced. |
| False alarms occur frequently. | Dust accumulation, steam from bathroom, cooking fumes, or improper placement. | Clean the detector as per Section 6. Relocate the detector if it's too close to kitchens or bathrooms. Use the mute function during cooking. |
| Detector does not respond to test button. | Battery issue (if applicable for initial setup), or device malfunction. | Ensure the battery is correctly inserted. If the device is old and chirping, it needs replacement. If new, contact support. |
| Interconnected units do not alarm together. | Improper pairing or interference. | Re-attempt the interconnection process as described in Section 4.3. Ensure all units are within range of each other. |
