2. Safety Information
To ensure safe operation, always adhere to the following precautions:
- Do Not Point Laser at Eyes: The laser is used for targeting. Avoid direct eye exposure to the laser beam.
- Not for Human/Animal Body Temperature: This infrared thermometer measures surface temperature and is not intended for medical use or measuring internal body temperature of humans or animals. Readings will be inaccurate for this purpose.
- Avoid Extreme Environments: Do not expose the device to extreme temperatures, humidity, or corrosive environments.
- Battery Safety: Ensure correct battery polarity. Remove batteries if the device will not be used for an extended period.
- Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth for cleaning. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the device in water.

Key Components:
- Optical System: Collects infrared energy emitted by the target.
- Laser Beam: Aids in precise targeting of the measurement area.
- Temperature Measurement Switch (Trigger): Activates measurement.
- Operating Buttons: For mode selection, unit switching, and emissivity adjustment.
- VA High-Resolution Display: Shows temperature readings, settings, and indicators.
- Battery Cover: Access for battery installation.
4. Setup
4.1 Battery Installation
The thermometer requires two AAA batteries (included). To install:
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the handle.
- Open the cover.
- Insert two AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Taking a Measurement
- Point the thermometer at the target surface.
- Press and hold the measurement trigger. The laser pointer will activate (if enabled) to indicate the measurement area.
- The display will show the real-time temperature. The maximum measured value during the scan will also be displayed.
- Release the trigger to hold the current reading on the display. The device will automatically power off after 30 seconds of inactivity.
Distance-to-Spot Ratio (D:S): This thermometer has a D:S ratio of 12:1. This means that at a distance of 12 inches, the measurement spot diameter is 1 inch. For accurate readings, ensure the target area is larger than the spot size. The further you are from the object, the larger the measurement area.

5.2 Adjustable Emissivity (0.1 - 1.0)
Emissivity is a measure of an object's ability to emit infrared energy. Different materials have different emissivities. Adjusting the emissivity setting allows for more accurate temperature readings for various surfaces.
- Press the 'MODE' button to enter emissivity adjustment mode.
- Use the Up/Down buttons to adjust the emissivity value from 0.1 to 1.0.
- Press the 'MODE' button again to confirm and exit.
Common Emissivity Values:
| Material | Typical Emissivity |
|---|---|
| Water, Ice | 0.92 - 0.98 |
| Painted Surfaces | 0.90 - 0.98 |
| Wood | 0.85 - 0.95 |
| Concrete | 0.94 |
| Polished Metals | 0.05 - 0.20 |

5.3 Unit Switching (°C/°F)
To switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit, press the dedicated unit button (often labeled °C/°F or integrated into the 'MODE' button functionality).
5.4 High/Low Temperature Warning
This feature allows you to set upper and lower temperature thresholds. If the measured temperature exceeds these limits, an alarm will activate.
- Press the 'MODE' button repeatedly until the 'HI' or 'LOW' alarm setting appears.
- Use the Up/Down buttons to set the desired high or low temperature threshold.
- When a measurement exceeds the set 'HI' value, a red light on the display's upper edge will illuminate, and 'HI' will be shown.
- When a measurement falls below the set 'LOW' value, a red light on the display's upper edge will illuminate, and 'LOW' will be shown.
5.5 Laser On/Off
The laser pointer can be toggled on or off. This is useful in situations where the laser might be distracting or if you prefer not to use it.
- Locate the laser button (often labeled with a laser icon).
- Press the button to toggle the laser on or off.
5.6 Auto Sleep Function
To conserve battery life, the thermometer will automatically enter sleep mode after 30 seconds of inactivity. To wake the device, press the measurement trigger or any mode button.
5.7 Low Battery Warning
When the battery power is low, a low battery indicator will appear on the display. Replace the batteries promptly to ensure continued accurate operation.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Cleaning
- Clean the lens with a soft, clean cloth or cotton swab. Do not use abrasive materials.
- Clean the device casing with a damp cloth and mild soap. Do not use harsh chemicals or immerse the device in water.
6.2 Storage
- Store the thermometer in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Remove batteries if storing for extended periods to prevent leakage.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No display/Device won't turn on | Dead batteries; Incorrect battery installation | Replace batteries; Check battery polarity |
| Inaccurate readings | Incorrect emissivity setting; Distance too far; Lens dirty | Adjust emissivity; Move closer to target; Clean lens |
| Laser not working | Laser turned off; Low battery | Toggle laser on; Replace batteries |
| Device shuts off unexpectedly | Auto-sleep activated; Low battery | Press trigger to wake; Replace batteries |
