  • Saw Chain: The cutting element with sharp teeth.
  • Front Handle: For stable two-hand operation.
  • Rear Handle: Contains the throttle trigger and controls.
  • Chain Brake: Safety feature to stop the chain quickly.
  • Starter Rope: Used to manually start the engine.
  • Fuel Tank Cap: For filling the fuel mixture.
  • Oil Tank Cap: For filling chain lubricant oil.

4. Setup

4.1 Assembly

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all components from the packaging.
  2. Guide Bar and Chain Installation:
    • Remove the chain cover nuts and the chain cover.
    • Place the chain onto the sprocket and around the guide bar. Ensure the cutting edges of the chain teeth face forward in the direction of rotation.
    • Mount the guide bar onto the studs, ensuring the chain tensioner pin engages with the hole in the guide bar.
    • Replace the chain cover and hand-tighten the nuts. Do not fully tighten yet.
  3. Chain Tension Adjustment:
    • Using the chain tensioning screw, adjust the chain tension. The chain should be snug against the guide bar but still able to be pulled freely by hand.
    • Once tension is correct, fully tighten the chain cover nuts.

4.2 Fuel and Oil Mixture

The Makute GC2301 uses a 2-stroke engine and requires a specific fuel mixture.

  • Fuel Mixture Ratio: Mix unleaded gasoline with high-quality 2-stroke engine oil at a ratio of 25:1 (25 parts gasoline to 1 part oil).
  • Chain Lubricant: Fill the separate oil tank with dedicated chain and bar oil. Do not use engine oil for chain lubrication.

WARNING: Never use pure gasoline or automotive engine oil in the fuel tank. This will damage the engine and void the warranty.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Starting the Engine

  1. Place the chainsaw on a firm, flat surface.
  2. Engage the chain brake by pushing the front hand guard forward.
  3. Set the choke lever to the 'Closed' position (if cold start).
  4. Press the primer bulb several times until fuel is visible.
  5. Pull the starter rope firmly and steadily until the engine fires briefly.
  6. Move the choke lever to the 'Open' position.
  7. Pull the starter rope again until the engine starts and runs.
  8. Disengage the chain brake by pulling the front hand guard back.

5.2 Cutting Techniques

  • Always maintain a balanced stance and firm grip.
  • Allow the chain to reach full speed before beginning a cut.
  • Avoid cutting with the tip of the guide bar to prevent kickback.
  • Be aware of falling timber and rolling logs. Plan your escape route before cutting.
  • For felling trees, make a notch cut first, then a felling cut from the opposite side.

5.3 Stopping the Engine

To stop the engine, simply move the ignition switch to the 'OFF' position.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and safe operation of your chainsaw.

6.1 After Each Use
