Key Components:
- Guide Bar: Supports and guides the saw chain.
- Saw Chain: The cutting element with sharp teeth.
- Front Handle: For stable two-hand operation.
- Rear Handle: Contains the throttle trigger and controls.
- Chain Brake: Safety feature to stop the chain quickly.
- Starter Rope: Used to manually start the engine.

- Oil Tank Cap: For filling chain lubricant oil.
4. Setup
4.1 Assembly
- Unpacking: Carefully remove all components from the packaging.
- Guide Bar and Chain Installation:
- Remove the chain cover nuts and the chain cover.
- Place the chain onto the sprocket and around the guide bar. Ensure the cutting edges of the chain teeth face forward in the direction of rotation.
- Mount the guide bar onto the studs, ensuring the chain tensioner pin engages with the hole in the guide bar.
- Replace the chain cover and hand-tighten the nuts. Do not fully tighten yet.
- Chain Tension Adjustment:
- Using the chain tensioning screw, adjust the chain tension. The chain should be snug against the guide bar but still able to be pulled freely by hand.
- Once tension is correct, fully tighten the chain cover nuts.

4.2 Fuel and Oil Mixture
The Makute GC2301 uses a 2-stroke engine and requires a specific fuel mixture.
- Fuel Mixture Ratio: Mix unleaded gasoline with high-quality 2-stroke engine oil at a ratio of 25:1 (25 parts gasoline to 1 part oil).
- Chain Lubricant: Fill the separate oil tank with dedicated chain and bar oil. Do not use engine oil for chain lubrication.
WARNING: Never use pure gasoline or automotive engine oil in the fuel tank. This will damage the engine and void the warranty.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Starting the Engine
- Place the chainsaw on a firm, flat surface.
- Engage the chain brake by pushing the front hand guard forward.
- Set the choke lever to the 'Closed' position (if cold start).
- Press the primer bulb several times until fuel is visible.
- Pull the starter rope firmly and steadily until the engine fires briefly.
- Move the choke lever to the 'Open' position.
- Pull the starter rope again until the engine starts and runs.
- Disengage the chain brake by pulling the front hand guard back.
5.2 Cutting Techniques
- Always maintain a balanced stance and firm grip.
- Allow the chain to reach full speed before beginning a cut.
- Avoid cutting with the tip of the guide bar to prevent kickback.
- Be aware of falling timber and rolling logs. Plan your escape route before cutting.
- For felling trees, make a notch cut first, then a felling cut from the opposite side.
5.3 Stopping the Engine
To stop the engine, simply move the ignition switch to the 'OFF' position.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and safe operation of your chainsaw.
6.1 After Each Use
- Clean the guide bar groove and oil holes.
- Clean the air filter.
- Check chain tension and sharpen if necessary.
- Inspect the chain brake for proper function.
6.2 Periodically
- Clean the spark plug and adjust the gap, or replace if worn.
- Clean the cooling fins to prevent overheating.
- Check all nuts and bolts for tightness.
6.3 Storage
- Drain the fuel tank or run the engine until it runs out of fuel.
- Clean the entire chainsaw thoroughly.
- Store in a dry, secure location away from children and ignition sources.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Engine does not start | No fuel, incorrect choke setting, fouled spark plug | Check fuel level and mixture, adjust choke, clean/replace spark plug |
| Engine runs poorly | Dirty air filter, incorrect fuel mixture, carburetor issues | Clean air filter, verify fuel mixture, consult service center for carburetor adjustment |
| Chain does not cut efficiently | Dull chain, incorrect chain tension, worn guide bar | Sharpen chain, adjust chain tension, replace guide bar if worn |
| Excessive vibration | Loose components, damaged chain/guide bar | Check all fasteners, inspect chain and guide bar for damage |
