5. Setup Guide

The EAP115-Bridge KIT is designed for easy installation with pre-configured units. Follow these steps for a successful deployment.

5.1 Site Survey and Mounting

  1. Choose Location: Select suitable outdoor locations for both bridge units, ensuring a clear line of sight between them for optimal performance. Avoid obstructions like buildings or dense foliage.
  2. Mounting: Use the provided mounting kit to securely attach each unit to a pole or wall. Ensure the units are oriented correctly and aligned towards each other.

5.2 Powering the Devices

Each unit can be powered using either the included PoE adapter or a DC adapter (sold separately).

  1. Using PoE Adapter:
    • Connect an Ethernet cable from the PoE port of the adapter to one of the Ethernet ports on the EAP115-Bridge unit.
    • Connect another Ethernet cable from the LAN port of the adapter to your network device (e.g., router, switch).
    • Plug the power cord into the PoE adapter and then into a power outlet.
  2. Using DC Adapter (Optional):
    • Connect a compatible DC adapter (not included) to the DC power input port on the EAP115-Bridge unit.
    • Plug the DC adapter into a power outlet.

5.3 Initial Connection and Verification

Since the units are pre-configured, they should automatically establish a connection once powered on and properly aligned.

  1. Power on both EAP115-Bridge units.
  2. Observe the LED indicators on each unit. Agile LEDs will indicate the connection status and signal strength. A stable green light typically signifies a successful link.
  3. Connect a computer or network device to the LAN port of the client unit (the unit receiving the signal) to verify network access.

6. Operating Instructions

The EAP115-Bridge KIT operates as a transparent wireless bridge, extending your network wirelessly. For advanced management and monitoring, utilize the TP-Link Omada cloud platform.

6.1 Omada Cloud Platform Management

The EAP115-Bridge KIT can be managed through the TP-Link Omada cloud platform, offering centralized control over your network devices.

  1. Ensure your Omada Controller (hardware or software) is set up and running within your network.
  2. The EAP115-Bridge units should be discoverable by the Omada Controller. Follow the controller's instructions to adopt and manage the devices.
  3. Through the Omada interface, you can monitor device status, adjust settings, and perform firmware updates.

6.2 Point-to-Point (PtP) and Point-to-Multipoint (PtMP) Operation

The kit is pre-configured for a basic Point-to-Point link. For more complex Point-to-Multipoint scenarios, additional client units (sold separately) can be added and configured via the Omada platform.

  • In a PtP setup, one unit acts as the main (AP) and the other as the client.
  • For PtMP, one main unit can connect to multiple client units, extending network access to several remote locations.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your EAP115-Bridge KIT.

7.1 Weatherproofing

The IP65 rating provides protection against dust and water jets. Periodically inspect the device and its cable connections for any signs of wear or damage to maintain its weatherproof integrity.

7.2 Firmware Updates

It is recommended to keep the device firmware updated to benefit from performance improvements, new features, and security enhancements. Firmware updates can typically be managed through the Omada cloud platform or downloaded from the TP-Link support website.

7.3 Cleaning

Gently clean the exterior of the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol sprays, as they may damage the enclosure or internal components.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your EAP115-Bridge KIT, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps.

8.1 No Connection / Unstable Link

  • Check Power: Ensure both units are powered on and receiving adequate power.
  • Verify Line of Sight: Confirm there are no new obstructions between the units. Even partial obstructions can significantly degrade performance.
  • Re-align Units: Minor adjustments to the physical alignment of the units can improve signal strength. Observe the agile LEDs for feedback.
  • Cable Connections: Ensure all Ethernet cables are securely connected and undamaged.
  • Reset Devices: If issues persist, try resetting both units to factory defaults using the reset button and re-configure if necessary (though pre-configuration should re-establish).

8.2 Slow Speed

  • Signal Strength: Check the signal strength indicators. A weak signal will result in lower speeds. Adjust alignment if needed.
  • Interference: Other 5GHz wireless devices in the area might cause interference. Consider changing the wireless channel if configurable via Omada.
  • Network Congestion: Ensure the wired network connected to the main unit is not experiencing congestion.
