5. Initial Setup

5.1. Battery Installation

  1. Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the unit.
  2. Insert 6 LR6 (AA) batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
  3. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

5.2. SD Card Insertion

  1. Locate the SD card slot on the side of the unit.
  2. Insert the provided 2GB SD card until it clicks into place.
  3. To remove, push the card gently until it ejects.

5.3. Connecting Clamp Sensors and Test Leads

  1. Connect the clamp sensors to the designated current input terminals (A1-A4).
  2. Connect the voltage test leads to the voltage input terminals (V, L, N).
  3. Ensure all connections are firm and secure before proceeding with measurements.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1. Power On/Off

Press and hold the POWER button to turn the unit on or off.

6.2. Measurement Modes

The KEW 5050 can measure various electrical parameters:

  • Io: Leakage current (1st-order component of Iom)
  • Ior: Resistive leakage current
  • Iom: Leakage current with harmonics
  • R: Insulation resistance (determined by V and Ior)
  • V: Reference voltage (1st-order component of Vm)
  • f: Frequency

Use the navigation buttons (UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT) and ENTER button to select and configure measurement parameters.

6.3. Data Logging

To start logging data, press the START/STOP button. Press it again to stop logging. Logged data is saved to the SD card.

6.4. Data Transfer and Analysis

Connect the KEW 5050 to a PC using the USB cable. Use the KEW Windows software to download, view, and analyze the logged data. The software supports automatic generation of graphs and reports.

7. Maintenance

7.1. Cleaning

Wipe the instrument with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure no moisture enters the device.
