Setup Guide
Initial Setup
- Unpacking: Carefully remove both the coffee maker and toaster from their packaging. Retain packaging for future storage or transport.
- Placement: Place the appliances on a stable, flat, heat-resistant surface, away from the edge of the counter and out of reach of children. Ensure adequate ventilation around both units.
- Cleaning Before First Use:
- Coffee Maker: Wash the glass carafe, lid, and reusable filter basket in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry. Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker with a damp cloth. Run two full cycles of water through the coffee maker without coffee grounds to clean the internal components.
- Toaster: Remove any packaging materials from the toasting slots. Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth. Plug in the toaster and operate it on the highest setting without bread a few times to burn off any manufacturing residues. This may produce a slight odor, which is normal.
- Power Connection: Ensure the power cords are not tangled and are positioned safely to avoid tripping hazards. Plug both appliances into a grounded electrical outlet.
Operating Instructions
Using the Coffee Maker
- Filling the Water Reservoir: Open the lid and fill the water reservoir with fresh, cold water up to the desired level indicated on the side. Do not exceed the 12-cup MAX line.
- Adding Coffee Grounds: Place the reusable filter into the filter basket. Add the desired amount of ground coffee to the filter. For best results, use 1 tablespoon of coffee grounds per cup. Close the lid securely.
- Placing the Carafe: Ensure the glass carafe is empty and placed correctly on the warming plate.
- Brewing Coffee:
- Immediate Brew: Press the "ON/OFF" button. The indicator light will illuminate, and brewing will begin.
- Adjusting Brew Strength: Before brewing, press the "STRENGTH" button to cycle through available strength options (e.g., Regular, Bold).
- Programmable Brew: To set a delayed brew time, first set the current time by pressing "HOUR" and "MINUTE" buttons. Then, press the "PROGRAM" button, followed by "HOUR" and "MINUTE" to set your desired brew start time. Press "DELAY BREW" to activate the timer. The coffee maker will start brewing automatically at the set time.
- Serving: The anti-drip function allows you to temporarily remove the carafe during brewing to pour a cup. Replace the carafe within 30 seconds to prevent overflow.
- Keep Warm Function: The warming plate will keep coffee warm for up to 120 minutes after brewing is complete, then automatically shut off for safety and energy saving.
Using the Toaster
- Placing Bread: Insert slices of bread, bagels, or waffles into the wide toasting slots. The self-centering function will hold them in place.
- Selecting Browning Level: Turn the browning control dial to your desired setting (1-6). A lower number provides lighter toast, a higher number provides darker toast. There are two independent browning controls, one for each pair of slots.
- Lowering the Lever: Press the lever handle down until it locks into place. The toasting cycle will begin.
- Special Functions:
- Cancel: Press the "CANCEL" button at any time to stop the toasting cycle and eject the toast.
- Bagel: Press the "BAGEL" button after lowering the lever. This setting toasts the cut side of the bagel while warming the outer side.
- Defrost: Press the "DEFROST" button after lowering the lever. This setting thaws and then toasts frozen items.
- Retrieving Toast: Once the toasting cycle is complete, the toast will automatically pop up.
Care and Maintenance
Always unplug both appliances from the power outlet and allow them to cool completely before cleaning.
Cleaning the Coffee Maker
- Carafe and Filter: Wash the glass carafe, lid, and reusable filter basket after each use with warm, soapy water. These parts are top-rack dishwasher safe.
- Exterior: Wipe the exterior surfaces of the coffee maker with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
- Descaling: Over time, mineral deposits can build up. To descale, fill the water reservoir with a mixture of white vinegar and water (1:2 ratio). Place an empty carafe on the warming plate. Run a brewing cycle without coffee grounds. After half the solution has brewed, turn off the coffee maker and let it soak for 15-20 minutes. Then, turn it back on and let the remaining solution brew. Repeat with two full cycles of fresh water to rinse thoroughly. Descale every 2-4 weeks depending on water hardness.
