2. Safety Information

Always adhere to the following safety precautions to prevent electric shock or personal injury, and to avoid damage to the meter or the equipment under test.

  • Read and understand all instructions in this manual before using the meter.
  • Do not use the meter if it appears damaged or if the test leads are damaged.
  • Always ensure the function dial is set to the correct range before making measurements.
  • Do not apply more than the rated voltage, as marked on the meter, between the terminals or between any terminal and ground.
  • Use caution when working with voltages above 30V AC RMS, 42V peak, or 60V DC. These voltages pose a shock hazard.
  • Always disconnect the test leads from the circuit before changing functions.
  • Adhere to IEC 61010-1 CAT III 300V / CAT II 600V safety standards.

3. Product Overview

Familiarize yourself with the main components of your KEW SNAP 200 Digital Clamp Meter:

  • Clamp Jaw: Used for non-contact AC/DC current measurement.
  • Function Dial: Selects the measurement mode (ACV, DCV, ACA, DCA, Resistance, Continuity).
  • LCD Display: Shows measurement readings and indicators.
  • Input Terminals: For connecting test leads for voltage, resistance, and continuity measurements.
  • DC A ADJ Button: Used to zero the DC current reading before measurement.
  • Data Hold Button: Freezes the current reading on the display.

4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

The KEW SNAP 200 is powered by two R03 (1.5V) AAA batteries. To install or replace batteries:

  1. Ensure the meter is turned OFF.
  2. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the meter.
  3. Open the battery cover using a suitable tool (e.g., screwdriver) if required.
  4. Insert two AAA batteries, observing the correct polarity (+/-).
  5. Close the battery cover securely.

The meter has an auto power-save function that activates after approximately 10 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery life.

5. Operating Instructions

This section details how to perform various measurements with your KEW SNAP 200.

5.1 AC/DC Current Measurement

To measure AC or DC current:

  1. Turn the function dial to the desired AC A or DC A range.
  2. For DC current measurement, press and hold the "DC A ADJ" button to reset the reading to zero before clamping the conductor. This ensures accurate measurement by compensating for residual magnetism.
  3. Open the clamp jaw and enclose a single conductor (not a cable with multiple wires) of the circuit you wish to measure.
  4. Close the clamp jaw completely.
  5. Read the current value on the LCD display.

5.2 AC/DC Voltage Measurement

To measure AC or DC voltage:

  1. Connect the red test lead to the V/Ω input terminal and the black test lead to the COM input terminal.
  2. Turn the function dial to the desired AC V or DC V range.
  3. Connect the test probes across the circuit or component you wish to measure.
  4. Read the voltage value on the LCD display.

5.3 Resistance and Continuity Measurement

To measure resistance or check continuity:

  1. Connect the red test lead to the V/Ω input terminal and the black test lead to the COM input terminal.
  2. Turn the function dial to the Ω (Ohms) or Continuity (Buzzer) range.
  3. For resistance, connect the test probes across the component. Read the resistance value on the LCD display.
  4. For continuity, touch the probes to the two points you want to test. If there is continuity (resistance below 50±35Ω), the buzzer will sound.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

Wipe the meter with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasives or solvents. Keep the clamp jaw free of dust and debris.

6.2 Battery Replacement

When the battery indicator appears on the display, replace the batteries as described in the "Battery Installation" section (4.1). Always use two new R03 (AAA) 1.5V batteries.

7. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Meter does not turn on.Dead or incorrectly installed batteries.Check battery polarity; replace batteries.
Inaccurate DC current reading.Residual magnetism in the clamp jaw.Press and hold the "DC A ADJ" button to zero the reading before measurement.
"OL" displayed during resistance measurement.Overload or open circuit.Ensure the circuit is not open; check the resistance value is within the meter's range.
No continuity beep.Open circuit or high resistance.Check the circuit for breaks; ensure resistance is below 50±35Ω.
