1. Introduction

Welcome to the NIXON Sentry SS A356 Analog Watch user manual. This guide provides essential information for setting up, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting your new timepiece. The NIXON Sentry SS A356 is a classic analog watch featuring a Miyota Japanese quartz 3-hand movement, applied indices, custom molded hands, and a durable 3-link stainless steel band. It is water-resistant up to 100 meters (10 ATM), suitable for swimming and snorkeling, but not for high-impact water sports or diving.

2. Setup

2.1 Setting the Time

  1. Pull the crown (located on the right side of the watch case) out to position 2.
  2. Turn the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise to move the hands and set the desired time.
  3. Once the time is set, push the crown back into position 1 to engage the movement and start the watch.

2.2 Setting the Day and Date

  1. Pull the crown out to position 1 (first click).
  2. Turn the crown clockwise to adjust the date.
  3. Turn the crown counter-clockwise to adjust the day.
  4. Once the day and date are set, push the crown back into the fully closed position.

Note: Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM, as this can interfere with the watch's automatic date change mechanism.

2.3 Adjusting the Stainless Steel Band

The NIXON Sentry SS A356 features a 3-link stainless steel band. If the band is too loose or too tight, it may require adjustment by adding or removing links. This process typically requires specialized tools and is best performed by a professional jeweler or watch repair service to prevent damage to the band or watch. Extra links are often included for larger wrist sizes.

3. Operating the Watch

Your NIXON Sentry SS A356 watch is designed for reliable timekeeping. Once the time, day, and date are set, the watch will operate continuously as long as the battery is functional. The Miyota Japanese quartz movement ensures accurate time display with its three hands (hour, minute, second).

3.1 Water Resistance

This watch is rated for 10 ATM (100 meters) water resistance. This means it is suitable for recreational swimming, showering, and snorkeling. However, it is not recommended for scuba diving, high-speed water sports, or prolonged submersion at depths beyond its rating. Always ensure the crown is fully pushed in before any contact with water.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning

To maintain the appearance of your watch, regularly wipe the case and band with a soft, damp cloth. For the stainless steel band, a mild soap solution can be used, followed by thorough rinsing with clean water and drying. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials, as these can damage the watch's finish.

4.2 Battery Replacement

The NIXON Sentry SS A356 uses one product-specific battery (included). When the watch stops running or the second hand begins to skip (indicating a low battery), it's time for a replacement. Battery replacement should be performed by a qualified watch technician to ensure proper sealing and maintain water resistance.

4.3 Water Resistance Checks

Over time, the gaskets that ensure water resistance can degrade. It is recommended to have your watch's water resistance checked annually by an authorized service center, especially if you frequently expose it to water.

5. Troubleshooting

5.1 Watch Not Running

  • Check the crown: Ensure the crown is fully pushed in. If it's pulled out, the watch will not run.
  • Battery: The battery may be depleted. Refer to section 4.2 for battery replacement information.

5.2 Incorrect Time or Date

  • Reset time/date: Follow the instructions in section 2.1 and 2.2 to reset the time, day, and date.

5.3 Water Inside the Watch

If you notice condensation or water droplets inside the watch, seek professional service immediately. This indicates a breach in the water resistance, and prolonged exposure to moisture can severely damage the internal movement.
