3. Setup
Follow these steps to set up your Tapo SolarCam 2K:
- Charge the Camera: Before installation, fully charge the camera's built-in battery using the provided battery charger cable.
- Download the Tapo App: Search for "Tapo" in your mobile device's app store (App Store for iOS or Google Play Store for Android) and download the official Tapo app.
- Create an Account: Open the Tapo app and follow the on-screen instructions to create a new Tapo account or log in if you already have one.
- Add Your Camera: In the Tapo app, tap the "+" icon to add a new device. Select your Tapo SolarCam 2K model and follow the in-app instructions for pairing the camera with your Wi-Fi network.
- Choose Installation Location: Select a location for your camera and solar panel that provides optimal sunlight exposure for the solar panel and a clear view for the camera. Ensure the location is within your Wi-Fi range. The camera and solar panel can be installed as a combined unit or separately using the 13-foot extension cable.
- Mount the Camera and Solar Panel: Use the provided mounting template, screws, and anchors to securely attach the camera bracket and solar panel to your chosen surface. Ensure the solar panel is angled to receive maximum direct sunlight throughout the day.
- Connect Solar Panel: If installing separately, connect the solar panel cable to the camera. Use the waterproof seals to ensure a secure and weather-resistant connection.

4. Operating Instructions
Once your Tapo SolarCam 2K is set up, you can manage and monitor it using the Tapo app.
4.1 Live View and Recording
- Access Live View: Open the Tapo app and select your camera from the device list to view the live feed.
- 2K QHD Resolution: The camera provides crystal-clear 2K QHD resolution, offering 1.7 times more pixels than 1080p for enhanced detail.
- 150° Super-Wide FOV: The wide field of view allows you to monitor a larger area, reducing blind spots.
- Recording: Footage is automatically recorded based on motion detection settings and stored locally on a microSD card (up to 512GB, sold separately) or uploaded to the Tapo Care cloud service (subscription required).

4.2 Detection Features
- Person/Vehicle/Pet Detection: The camera utilizes smart AI to identify and differentiate between people, vehicles, and pets, reducing false alerts.
- Activity Zones: Customize specific activity zones within the camera's view to focus detection on areas of interest and receive alerts only when truly needed.

4.3 Night Vision
- Starlight Color Night Vision: Equipped with a starlight sensor and built-in spotlights, the camera provides full-color images even in low-light conditions, offering clearer night surveillance than traditional black-and-white night vision.
- Night Vision Range: The camera has a night vision range of up to 49 feet.

4.4 Two-Way Audio and Siren
- Two-Way Audio: Communicate with visitors or deter intruders using the built-in microphone and speaker.

5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your Tapo SolarCam 2K.
- Clean the Lens: Periodically wipe the camera lens with a soft, clean cloth to remove dust, dirt, or water spots that may affect image clarity.
- Clean the Solar Panel: Ensure the solar panel surface is clean and free of debris (leaves, dust, snow) to maximize sunlight absorption and charging efficiency.
- Check Connections: Occasionally inspect all cable connections, especially the solar panel connection, to ensure they are secure and waterproof.
- Software Updates: Keep the Tapo app and camera firmware updated to the latest versions to benefit from new features, performance improvements, and security enhancements. Check for updates within the Tapo app settings.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Tapo SolarCam 2K, try the following troubleshooting steps:
- No Power/Camera Offline:
- Ensure the solar panel is receiving adequate direct sunlight.
- Check the solar panel cable connection to the camera.
- Verify the camera's battery level in the Tapo app. If low, bring the camera indoors for a full charge using the USB cable.
- Confirm your Wi-Fi network is active and the camera is within range.
- Poor Image Quality:
- Clean the camera lens.
- Check your Wi-Fi signal strength in the camera's location. A weak signal can affect video quality.
- Ensure there are no obstructions in the camera's field of view.
- Motion Detection Issues:
- Adjust the motion detection sensitivity settings in the Tapo app.
- Review and reconfigure activity zones to ensure they cover the desired areas.
- Ensure there are no large objects (e.g., tree branches) that might cause frequent false alerts due to movement.
- Cannot Connect to Wi-Fi:
- Ensure you are entering the correct Wi-Fi password.
- Move the camera closer to your Wi-Fi router during the setup process.
- Restart your router and the camera.
- If issues persist, consider resetting the camera to factory defaults (refer to the Quick Start Guide for instructions) and attempting setup again.
