2. Safety Information

To ensure safe operation, always adhere to the following safety precautions. Failure to do so may result in electric shock, injury, or damage to the meter or equipment under test.

  • Always disconnect power to the circuit and discharge all high-voltage capacitors before testing resistance, continuity, diodes, or capacitance.
  • Do not apply more than the rated voltage, as marked on the meter, between the terminals or between any terminal and earth ground. The meter is designed for 550V high voltage protection.
  • Use extreme caution when working with voltages above 30V AC RMS, 42V peak, or 60V DC. These voltages pose a shock hazard.
  • Keep your fingers behind the probe barriers during measurements.
  • Replace the battery immediately when the low battery indicator appears to ensure accurate readings.
  • Do not operate the meter if it appears damaged or if the case is open.
  • Ensure the test leads are in good condition, without any damaged insulation.
  • Install fuses with the correct amp/volt ratings as shown in the manual to prevent damage or injury.

5. Operating Instructions

Before taking any measurements, ensure the test leads are correctly connected and the function dial is set to the appropriate measurement type.

5.1 Power On/Off

  • To turn on the multimeter, rotate the function dial from the "OFF" position to any desired measurement function.
  • To turn off the multimeter, rotate the function dial back to the "OFF" position.
  • The multimeter features an auto power-off function to save battery life. It will automatically shut down after a period of inactivity.

5.2 AC/DC Voltage Measurement

  1. Connect the red test lead to the VΩHz-I- jack and the black test lead to the COM jack.
  2. Rotate the function dial to the V~ (AC Voltage) or V- (DC Voltage) position. The meter will automatically select the range.
  3. Touch the test probes to the circuit points where voltage is to be measured.
  4. Read the voltage value on the display.

5.3 AC/DC Current Measurement

Caution: To measure current, the meter must be connected in series with the circuit. Incorrect connection can blow the fuse or damage the meter.

  1. For currents up to 10A: Connect the red test lead to the 10A jack and the black test lead to the COM jack.
  2. For smaller currents (mA): Connect the red test lead to the VΩHz-I- jack and the black test lead to the COM jack.
  3. Rotate the function dial to the A~ (AC Current) or A- (DC Current) position.
  4. Open the circuit where current is to be measured and connect the test probes in series.
  5. Read the current value on the display.

5.4 Resistance Measurement

  1. Connect the red test lead to the VΩHz-I- jack and the black test lead to the COM jack.
  2. Rotate the function dial to the Ω (Resistance) position.
  3. Ensure the circuit under test is de-energized and all capacitors are discharged.
  4. Touch the test probes across the component to be measured.
  5. Read the resistance value on the display.

5.5 Capacitance Measurement

  1. Connect the red test lead to the VΩHz-I- jack and the black test lead to the COM jack.
  2. Rotate the function dial to the µF (Capacitance) position.
  3. Ensure the capacitor under test is fully discharged before connecting the probes.
  4. Touch the test probes across the capacitor terminals.
  5. Read the capacitance value on the display.

5.6 Frequency and Duty Cycle Measurement

  1. Connect the red test lead to the VΩHz-I- jack and the black test lead to the COM jack.
  2. Rotate the function dial to the Hz/% (Frequency/Duty Cycle) position.
  3. Touch the test probes to the signal source.
  4. Press the "SEL" button to toggle between Frequency (Hz) and Duty Cycle (%).
  5. Read the value on the display.

5.7 Diode Test

  1. Connect the red test lead to the VΩHz-I- jack and the black test lead to the COM jack.
  2. Rotate the function dial to the Diode symbol position (often shared with continuity or resistance).
  3. Ensure the diode is disconnected from the circuit.
  4. Touch the red probe to the anode and the black probe to the cathode of the diode. A forward voltage drop (e.g., 0.5V to 0.8V for silicon diodes) will be displayed.
  5. Reverse the probes. The display should show "OL" (Open Loop) for a good diode.

5.8 Temperature Measurement

  1. Connect the red test lead to the VΩHz-I- jack and the black test lead to the COM jack.
  2. Rotate the function dial to the °C/°F (Temperature) position.
  3. If using a K-type thermocouple (not included, but often used with multimeters for temperature), connect it to the appropriate jacks (usually the VΩHz-I- and COM jacks, or dedicated temperature jacks if present).
  4. Place the thermocouple probe on or near the object whose temperature is to be measured.
  5. Read the temperature value on the display. Press "SEL" to switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

Wipe the case with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasives or solvents.

6.2 Battery Replacement

When the low battery indicator appears on the display, replace the batteries as described in Section 4.1. Always use two new AAA batteries of the same type.

6.3 Fuse Replacement

If the current measurement function stops working, the fuse may need replacement. Refer to the specifications for the correct fuse type and rating. To replace the fuse, you will need to open the meter's casing, which should only be done by qualified personnel. Ensure the meter is disconnected from all power sources and test leads before attempting fuse replacement.

7. Troubleshooting

  • No Display: Check battery installation and ensure batteries are not depleted. Replace if necessary.
  • "OL" (Overload) Indication: The measured value exceeds the selected range. For auto-ranging meters, this indicates the value is beyond the meter's maximum capability for that function.
  • Inaccurate Readings:
    • Ensure test leads are properly connected and not damaged.
    • Check battery level; low batteries can affect accuracy.
    • Verify the correct function and range are selected.
    • Ensure proper contact between probes and the circuit.
  • Current Measurement Not Working: Check the fuse. If blown, replace it with a fuse of the correct rating.
