2. Safety Information

2.1 General Safety Guidelines

Always wear a helmet that fits correctly and is securely fastened. Never modify your helmet, as this can compromise its protective capabilities. Inspect your helmet for any damage before each ride. Replace your helmet immediately if it has been involved in an impact, even if visible damage is not apparent.

2.2 Certifications

This helmet is certified to meet the safety standards of DOT FMVSS No. 218 and ECE 22.06. These certifications ensure the helmet provides a high level of protection against impact.

2.3 Emergency Features

The helmet is equipped with an Emergency Quick-Release Cheek Pad System. In the event of an accident, emergency personnel can quickly and safely remove the cheek pads, allowing for easier helmet removal and reducing potential injury to the rider's neck.

2.4 Proper Fit

A properly fitting helmet is crucial for safety and comfort. The helmet should feel snug around your head and cheeks without causing pressure points. It should not move freely when you shake your head. Refer to the sizing chart provided by ScorpionEXO and consider trying on the helmet to ensure the best fit. If the helmet feels too tight or loose, it may compromise safety.

3. Setup

3.1 Initial Inspection

Upon receiving your helmet, carefully inspect it for any signs of damage that may have occurred during shipping. Check the visor, sun visor, ventilation mechanisms, and retention system for proper function.

3.2 Adjusting the Fit (Airfit System)

The Airfit inflation adjustment system allows you to customize the fit of your helmet. Locate the pump button (usually near the chin bar) and the release valve. Pump the system to inflate the cheek pads for a tighter, more secure fit. Press the release valve to deflate the pads. Adjust until the helmet feels snug and comfortable without excessive pressure.

3.3 Installing Communication System (Comm-Ready Pockets)

The ST1400 EVO is designed with Comm-Ready speaker pockets to facilitate the installation of most Bluetooth communication system speakers. Carefully remove the interior padding where the speaker pockets are located. Insert your communication system speakers into these designated pockets. Ensure wires are routed neatly and do not interfere with helmet operation or comfort. Refer to your communication system's manual for specific installation instructions.

3.4 Visor Preparation (Pinlock Insert)

Your helmet includes a FREE MaxVision Pinlock Ready shield and Pinlock insert to prevent fogging. To install the Pinlock insert:

  1. Remove the main clear visor from the helmet.
  2. Gently flex the visor flat to allow the Pinlock insert to fit between the two pins on the inside of the visor.
  3. Align the silicone seal of the Pinlock insert with the visor's surface and press it firmly onto the pins.
  4. Ensure the seal is complete around the entire edge of the Pinlock insert.
  5. Reinstall the main clear visor onto the helmet.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Visor Operation (Ellip-Tec II Ratchet System)

The Ellip-Tec II ratchet system allows for smooth and secure operation of the main clear visor. To open or close the visor, simply lift or lower it. The 2-axis movement pulls the shield firmly into the eye port gasket for a maximum seal when closed. For city riding, a preset 'City Position' adjustment provides a small gap for added airflow to reduce fogging and increase ventilation.

4.2 SpeedView Sun Visor Operation

The retractable Everclear SpeedView Drop Down Sun-Visor can be deployed or retracted using the lever located on the left side of the helmet. Slide the lever down to deploy the sun visor and up to retract it. This allows for quick adaptation to changing light conditions.

4.3 Ventilation System Adjustment

The helmet features an aero-tuned ventilation system with adjustable dual ram-air intakes and spoiler-integrated exhaust vents. Locate the adjustable vents on the front and top of the helmet. Slide or click the vent covers to open or close them, controlling the airflow through the helmet. Adjust as needed for optimal comfort and temperature regulation.

4.4 Emergency Quick Release System

The emergency quick-release cheek pad system is for use by trained emergency personnel only. In an emergency, pull the red tabs located at the bottom of the cheek pads to quickly remove them, facilitating safer helmet removal.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning the Exterior Shell

Clean the helmet's exterior shell with a soft cloth and mild soap and water. Avoid using harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the carbon fiber finish and protective coatings. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft, clean cloth.

5.2 Cleaning the Visor and Sun Visor

The Everclear visor and sun visor are treated with anti-fog and anti-scratch coatings. Clean them with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap or a specialized helmet visor cleaner. Do not use abrasive materials or harsh chemicals. Allow to air dry or gently blot with a microfiber cloth. Ensure the Pinlock insert is also clean and properly sealed.

5.3 Cleaning the KwikWick III Interior

The KwikWick III interior lining is removable and washable. Carefully detach the cheek pads and headliner from the helmet. Hand wash them in cool water with mild soap or a gentle detergent. Rinse thoroughly and allow them to air dry completely before reinstalling them into the helmet. Do not machine wash or tumble dry.

5.4 Storage

Store your helmet in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Use the helmet bag provided to protect it from scratches and dust. Do not store the helmet near chemicals or solvents.

6. Troubleshooting

6.1 Common Issues and Solutions

  • Helmet feels too tight or loose: Re-check your head measurement against the ScorpionEXO sizing chart. Utilize the Airfit inflation system to fine-tune the fit. If the helmet is consistently uncomfortable or moves excessively, consider a different size.
  • Excessive wind noise: Ensure the main visor is fully closed and properly sealed by the Ellip-Tec II ratchet system. Check that all ventilation vents are closed if you desire less airflow. A proper helmet fit is essential for minimizing wind noise.
  • Visor fogging: Ensure the Pinlock insert is correctly installed and sealed against the main visor. Open the ventilation vents or use the 'City Position' on the visor for increased airflow.
  • Difficulty installing communication system: Verify that your communication system speakers are compatible with the helmet's Comm-Ready pockets. Ensure wires are routed without obstruction. Refer to both the helmet manual and your communication system's manual for detailed instructions.
