Setup
1. Charging the Battery
Your Talkpod F40 walkie talkie comes with a built-in 1000mAh Li-ion rechargeable battery. Before first use, it is recommended to fully charge the device.
- Locate the USB-C charging port on the side or bottom of the walkie talkie.
- Connect the provided 2-in-1 USB-C charging cable to the walkie talkie's port.
- Connect the other end of the USB cable to a compatible USB power adapter (not included) or a computer's USB port.
- The battery indicator on the LCD screen will show charging status. A full charge typically takes several hours.

2. Attaching the Belt Clip
To conveniently carry your walkie talkie, attach the included belt clip:
- Align the belt clip with the designated slots on the back of the walkie talkie.
- Slide the clip downwards until it clicks securely into place.
- To remove, push the release tab (if present) and slide the clip upwards.

Operating Instructions
1. Power On/Off
- To Power On: Press and hold the Menu/Power Button until the LCD screen illuminates.
- To Power Off: Press and hold the Menu/Power Button until the LCD screen turns off.
2. Channel Selection
The F40 walkie talkie operates on 22 FRS channels. To communicate, all radios must be on the same channel.
- Short press the Menu/Power Button to enter the menu. The channel number will flash.
- Use the Volume/Scroll Up (▲) or Down (▼) buttons to select your desired channel (1-22).
- Press the Menu/Power Button again to confirm the channel and move to the next setting, or wait a few seconds for the setting to save automatically.
3. Privacy Codes (CTCSS/DCS)
The F40 supports 121 privacy codes (38 CTCSS codes and 83 DCS codes) to minimize interference from other users on the same channel. For private communication, all radios must be on the same channel and the same privacy code.
- After selecting a channel, short press the Menu/Power Button again to enter the privacy code setting. The privacy code number will flash.
- Use the Volume/Scroll Up (▲) or Down (▼) buttons to select your desired privacy code (0-121). Code 0 means no privacy code is active.
- Press the Menu/Power Button to confirm and exit the menu, or wait for automatic saving.
4. VOX Function (Voice Operated Exchange)
VOX allows you to transmit without pressing the PTT button. The radio will automatically transmit when it detects your voice.
- Short press the Menu/Power Button repeatedly until the VOX icon flashes on the screen.
- Use the Volume/Scroll Up (▲) or Down (▼) buttons to select the VOX sensitivity level (e.g., 1-3, with 3 being most sensitive) or turn it off (OF).
- Press the Menu/Power Button to confirm.
5. Key Lock
The key lock feature prevents accidental changes to your settings, especially useful for children.
- To Activate Key Lock: Press and hold the Call Tone/Lock Button until a lock icon appears on the screen.
- To Deactivate Key Lock: Press and hold the Call Tone/Lock Button again until the lock icon disappears.
- Note: The PTT button will still function when the key lock is active.
6. Transmitting and Receiving
- To Transmit: Press and hold the PTT Button. Speak clearly into the microphone. Release the PTT button when finished speaking.
- To Receive: Ensure the PTT button is not pressed. The radio will automatically receive signals on the selected channel and privacy code.
7. Sending a Call Tone
You can send an audible alert to other radios on the same channel and privacy code.
- To Send Call Tone: Briefly press the Call Tone/Lock Button.
8. Communication Range
The effective communication range of your Talkpod F40 walkie talkies can vary significantly based on terrain, weather conditions, electromagnetic interference, and obstructions. The maximum stated range is 5 miles, but this is under ideal conditions.
- Over 5 Miles: Achievable in areas with no sight obstruction, such as open water or very flat, open fields.
- 3-5 Miles: Typical range in open fields with minimal obstructions.
