1. Introduction

This manual provides instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of the TP-Link DS1008X Omada 8-Port 10G Multi-Gigabit Switch. 4. Physical Overview

4.1 Front Panel

• Power LED: Indicates the power status of the switch.
• 10G Multi-Gigabit Ports (1-8): Eight RJ45 ports supporting 100Mbps, 1Gbps, 2.5Gbps, 5Gbps, and 10Gbps speeds.
• Link/Act LEDs: Each port has an LED indicating link status and data activity.

5. Setup

5.1 Placement Considerations

• Place the switch on a stable, flat surface or mount it in a standard 19-inch rack (rackmount kit sold separately).
• Ensure adequate space around the switch for proper airflow and heat dissipation.
• Keep the switch away from strong electromagnetic interference sources.

5.2 Connecting the Power

1. Connect one end of the provided power cord to the AC power inlet on the rear panel of the switch.
2. Connect the other end of the power cord to a standard electrical outlet.
3. The Power LED on the front panel will illuminate, indicating the switch is receiving power.

5.3 Connecting Network Devices

1. Using standard Ethernet cables (Cat5e or higher for Gigabit, Cat6a or higher for 10G), connect your network devices (e.g., computers, servers, network-attached storage, routers) to any of the 10G Multi-Gigabit ports (1-8) on the front panel of the switch.
2. The corresponding Link/Act LED for the connected port will light up, indicating a successful connection. It will blink to show data activity.

6. Operating

The TP-Link DS1008X is an unmanaged switch, meaning it operates on a plug-and-play basis and requires no configuration. Once powered on and connected to network devices, it will automatically detect and negotiate the optimal speed for each connected device.

6.1 LED Indicators

• Power LED:
  • On: The switch is powered on.
  • Off: The switch is powered off.
• Link/Act LEDs (per port):
  • On: A device is connected to the port.
  • Blinking: Data is being transmitted or received through the port.
  • Off: No device is connected or the connected device is not powered on.

7. Maintenance

• Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the switch. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners.
• Ventilation: Periodically check that the ventilation openings are not blocked by dust or debris.
• Power Cycle: If the switch experiences issues, try power cycling it by unplugging the power cord, waiting 10 seconds, and then plugging it back in.
• Environmental Conditions: Ensure the operating environment remains within the specified temperature and humidity ranges (refer to Specifications section).

8. Troubleshooting

8.1 No Power

• Ensure the power cord is securely connected to both the switch and the electrical outlet.
• Verify that the electrical outlet is functioning correctly by plugging in another device.

8.2 No Link Light on Port

• Check if the Ethernet cable is securely connected to both the switch port and the network device.
• Ensure the connected network device is powered on and functioning correctly.
• Try using a different Ethernet cable to rule out cable issues.
• Try connecting to a different port on the switch.

8.3 Slow Network Speed

• Ensure all connected devices and cables support the desired speed (e.g., 10G for 10 Gigabit performance). Using older cables (e.g., Cat5) or devices that only support lower speeds will limit the overall network performance.
• Check for network congestion or high traffic on connected devices.
• Verify that the switch is placed in a well-ventilated area to prevent performance degradation due to overheating.
