Setup
Unboxing and Initial Inspection
Upon receiving your Leupold Mark 5HD riflescope, carefully open the packaging and inspect all contents. The box should contain the riflescope, a sun shade, front and rear scope caps, a battery for the illuminated reticle (if applicable to your model), an Allen wrench, and this owner's manual.

Mounting the Riflescope
The Mark 5HD is designed for use with cantilever mounts. Ensure your mount is securely attached to your rifle's rail system. Place the riflescope into the mount rings, ensuring proper eye relief and reticle alignment before tightening the rings. Refer to your mount's specific instructions for torque specifications.
Attaching Accessories
- Sun Shade: Screw the sun shade onto the objective lens end of the riflescope to reduce glare.
- Scope Caps: Attach the flip-up scope caps to both the objective and eyepiece lenses for protection when not in use.
- Battery Installation: If your model features an illuminated reticle, install the provided battery into the illumination control knob located on the side parallax turret.
Operating the Riflescope
Magnification Adjustment
The riflescope features a 5-25x magnification range. Rotate the power selector ring, located near the eyepiece, to adjust the magnification. The integrated throw lever allows for quick and easy changes. Since this is a Front Focal Plane (FFP) reticle, the reticle size will change proportionally with the magnification, ensuring accurate subtensions at all power settings.

Parallax Adjustment
The side focus parallax adjustment knob is located on the left side of the riflescope. Rotate this knob to bring the target and reticle into the same focal plane, eliminating parallax error. Adjust until the image is crisp and clear at your desired range.
Elevation and Windage Turrets (M1C3)
The M1C3 turrets provide precise 1/4 MOA adjustments. The elevation turret features three revolutions of travel, a push-button ZeroLock, and a revolution indicator. To make adjustments, simply rotate the turret. To set your zero, loosen the set screws on the turret, rotate the turret cap to your desired zero mark, and then re-tighten the set screws. The ZeroLock feature prevents accidental rotation from your established zero.

The windage turret is capped and requires an Allen key to reset its zero. Most long-range shooters utilize reticle holdovers for windage adjustments, making frequent turret adjustments less common for this setting.
PR1-MOA Reticle
The PR1-MOA reticle is a front focal plane (FFP) design, meaning its subtensions remain accurate across all magnification settings. It features an MOA-based grid with multiple aiming points, ideal for extreme long-range shots. The reticle has 1 MOA increments and 40 MOA of measurement in each direction.

Maintenance
Cleaning the Lenses
To clean the lenses, first use a lens brush or compressed air to remove any loose dust or debris. Then, apply a small amount of lens cleaning solution to a microfiber cloth and gently wipe the lens surface in a circular motion. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials that could damage the lens coatings.
Waterproof and Fogproof Care
Your Leupold Mark 5HD riflescope is 100% waterproof and fogproof. While designed to withstand harsh conditions, avoid unnecessary submersion or extreme temperature changes that could stress the seals. If the scope becomes wet, wipe it dry with a clean cloth before storing.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter any issues with your Leupold Mark 5HD riflescope, please refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
- Blurred Image: Ensure the parallax adjustment is correctly set for your target distance and that the eyepiece is properly focused for your eye.
- Reticle Not Illuminating: Check if the battery is correctly installed and has sufficient charge. Replace the battery if necessary.
- Inaccurate Adjustments: Verify that the turret caps are securely tightened (for windage) and that the ZeroLock mechanism is properly engaged (for elevation). Ensure mounting rings are torqued to specification.
