Setup

1. Unpacking and Inspection

Carefully remove all items from the packaging. Inspect the bass guitar and accessories for any signs of damage. Retain the packaging for future transport or storage.

2. Attaching the Strap

Locate the two strap buttons on the bass guitar. One is typically on the lower bout (bottom edge) and the other on the upper horn. Securely attach each end of the adjustable strap to these buttons. Ensure the strap is firmly attached before letting go of the instrument.

3. Connecting to the Amplifier

  1. Ensure the amplifier is turned off and its volume is set to minimum.
  2. Insert one end of the 10 ft instrument cable into the output jack on the bass guitar (usually on the front edge of the body).
  3. Insert the other end of the instrument cable into the input jack on the amplifier.
  4. Turn on the amplifier.

4. Tuning the Bass Guitar

Use the included electronic tuner to accurately tune your bass guitar. The standard tuning for a 4-string bass is E-A-D-G (from thickest to thinnest string).

  1. Attach the tuner to the headstock of the bass guitar.
  2. Pluck each string individually. The tuner display will show the note being played.
  3. Adjust the corresponding tuning peg on the headstock until the tuner indicates the correct note (E, A, D, or G) and shows it is in tune (e.g., a green light or centered needle).
  4. Repeat for all four strings.

Operating

1. Bass Guitar Controls

The STRICH SPB-S10 P-Style bass guitar features two metal control knobs:

  • Volume Knob: Controls the overall output level of the bass guitar. Turn clockwise to increase volume, counter-clockwise to decrease.
  • Tone Knob: Adjusts the tonal characteristics, typically from a brighter sound (clockwise) to a warmer, mellower sound (counter-clockwise).

2. Portable Amplifier Controls

The included 20W portable amplifier provides several controls for sound shaping and connectivity:

  • Volume: Controls the amplifier's output volume.
  • Tone: Adjusts the amplifier's tonal balance.
  • Gain: Controls the input sensitivity and can add overdrive/distortion.
  • Bluetooth: Activates Bluetooth pairing for playing along with external audio sources.
  • Headphone Jack (30 Ohm): For silent practice using headphones.
  • Aux Input: For wired connection to external audio sources.

To use the Bluetooth function, turn on the amplifier and activate Bluetooth. Search for the amplifier on your device and pair. You can then play audio from your device through the amplifier while playing your bass.

3. Basic Playing Posture

When playing, hold the bass comfortably against your body. The neck should be at an angle that allows easy access to all frets. Use your fretting hand to press down strings firmly just behind the frets and your picking hand to pluck or strum the strings.

Maintenance

1. Cleaning the Instrument

  • After each use, wipe down the strings, fretboard, and body of the bass with the included cleaning cloth to remove sweat, oils, and dust.
  • For a deeper clean, use a guitar-specific polish on the body and a fretboard conditioner on the wooden fingerboard (avoiding painted areas).
  • Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive materials, as these can damage the finish.

2. String Care and Replacement

  • Strings should be replaced periodically, as they lose their tone and can become corroded over time. The frequency depends on playing habits.
  • When replacing strings, change them one at a time to maintain neck tension. Use nickel bass strings of appropriate gauge.
  • Ensure strings are properly wound around the tuning pegs and seated in the bridge saddles.

3. Amplifier Care

  • Keep the amplifier in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Wipe the exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Do not spray liquids directly onto the amplifier.
  • Ensure proper ventilation and avoid blocking air vents.
  • Charge the amplifier's battery as needed.

4. Storage

When not in use, store the bass guitar in its gig bag to protect it from dust, humidity changes, and physical damage. Store the amplifier and accessories in a safe, dry location.

Troubleshooting

1. No Sound from Amplifier

  • Check if the amplifier is turned on and charged.
  • Ensure the instrument cable is securely connected to both the bass and the amplifier.
  • Verify that the volume knobs on both the bass and the amplifier are turned up.
  • Test with a different instrument cable if available.
  • Ensure no headphones are plugged into the amplifier's headphone jack if you expect sound from the speaker.

2. Fret Buzz

  • Fret buzz can occur if the string action (height) is too low or if the neck relief is incorrect.
  • Ensure you are pressing the strings firmly just behind the fret.
  • Minor adjustments to string height at the bridge can sometimes resolve this. For significant or persistent fret buzz, professional setup may be required.

3. Tuning Instability

  • Ensure strings are properly stretched when new. Gently pull each string away from the fretboard a few times after initial tuning.
  • Check that strings are correctly seated in the nut and bridge saddles.
  • Verify that tuning pegs are not loose.
  • Temperature and humidity changes can affect tuning; re-tune regularly.
