Setup and Installation

Installing an M.2 NVMe SSD

The ORICO hub features a tool-free design for M.2 NVMe SSD installation. Follow these steps:

  1. Remove the magnetic top cover: Gently lift the top cover of the docking station. It is held in place by magnets.
  2. Prepare the SSD: If included, stick the silicone thermal pad onto your M.2 NVMe SSD and place the heatsink cover on top of the thermal pad. This aids in heat dissipation.
  3. Insert the M.2 SSD: Carefully insert your M.2 NVMe SSD into the designated slot within the enclosure. Ensure it is fully seated. The enclosure supports 2230, 2242, 2260, and 2280 form factors.
  4. Secure the SSD: Use the provided retention mechanism (e.g., rubber stopper or screw) to secure the SSD in place.
  5. Replace the magnetic cover: Align the magnetic top cover and place it back onto the docking station until it snaps into place.

Operating Instructions

Data Transfer

Utilize the USB-A and USB-C data ports for connecting external drives, flash drives, or other peripherals. The 10Gbps ports (one USB-A, one USB-C) provide high-speed data transfer for large files.

SD/TF Card Reader

Insert SD or TF (Micro SD) cards into the respective slots to access data from memory cards, useful for cameras, drones, or other devices.

Maintenance

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your ORICO 9-in-1 USB C Hub, consider the following maintenance tips:

  • Keep Clean: Regularly wipe the exterior with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust. Avoid liquid cleaners.
  • Ventilation: Ensure the hub's ventilation areas are not obstructed to allow proper airflow for the built-in fan.
  • Heat Management: The hub is designed with a built-in fan and heatsink to manage heat, especially when an SSD is installed and under heavy load. It is normal for the device to become warm during operation. If the fan activates, it is working as intended to cool the SSD and internal components.
  • Handle with Care: While the magnetic top cover is convenient, handle the device carefully, especially when transporting, to prevent accidental detachment of the cover or dislodging of internal components.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your ORICO 9-in-1 USB C Hub, please refer to the following common solutions:

  • SSD Not Recognized:
    • Ensure the M.2 NVMe SSD is correctly inserted and secured in the slot.
    • For new SSDs, it may need to be initialized and formatted through your operating system's Disk Management (Windows) or Disk Utility (macOS) before it appears.
    • SSDs larger than 1TB may require an external power supply connected to the PD-IN port for stable operation.
  • Slow Data Transfer Speeds:
    • Verify that your host device's USB-C port supports USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps) for maximum speed.
    • Ensure you are using the provided high-quality USB-C to C cable.
    • Simultaneous use of multiple high-bandwidth interfaces (e.g., SSD, multiple USB devices, Ethernet) can slightly reduce individual port speeds.
    • Overheating can cause speed throttling. Ensure proper ventilation and that the heatsink and fan are functioning.
  • No Power Delivery (Charging):
    • Confirm that your laptop's USB-C port supports Power Delivery (PD). Not all USB-C ports support charging.
    • Ensure you are using a PD-compatible charger (e.g., 100W) connected to the hub's PD-IN port.
  • Ethernet Connection Issues:
    • Check the Ethernet cable connection at both the hub and your router/modem.
    • Ensure your device's network settings are configured correctly (e.g., DHCP enabled).
    • Try updating your computer's network drivers.
  • Fan Noise:
    • The built-in fan activates when the internal temperature, particularly of the SSD, exceeds a certain threshold (e.g., 50°C) to prevent overheating. This is normal operation.
    • If the fan noise is unusually loud or grinding, ensure the device is on a flat, stable surface and that no debris is obstructing the fan vents.
