1. Introduction

The XRCLIF Wood Moisture Meter is a versatile digital instrument designed to accurately measure the moisture content of various materials, including wood, paper, cardboard, and construction materials like walls, concrete, and drywall. This device is an essential tool for wood processing manufacturers, flooring installers, DIY enthusiasts, inspectors, and lumber suppliers, providing precise readings to aid in informed decision-making for projects.

Its user-friendly design features a large, backlit LCD for clear viewing, a data hold function, automatic power-off, and a battery indicator, ensuring convenience and reliability in diverse working conditions.

2. Safety Information

Please read and understand all safety instructions before operating the device. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury or damage to the meter.

  • Keep out of reach of children: The meter contains sharp pins that can cause injury.
  • Avoid electrical hazards: Do not use the meter on live electrical circuits or materials that may contain hidden wiring.

  • Built-in Pins: Used to penetrate the material for moisture measurement.
  • LCD Display: Shows moisture content, temperature, wood type, and other indicators.
  • °C/°F Button: Toggles between Celsius and Fahrenheit for temperature display, and also used for type selection/zero point calibration.
  • MODE Button: Selects material type (wood groups, construction material) and activates backlight.
  • HOLD Button: Freezes the current reading on the display and acts as the power button.
  • Protective Cap: Covers the pins when not in use.
  • Battery Compartment: Located under the leather cover at the bottom.

4. Setup

4.1. Battery Installation

The XRCLIF Wood Moisture Meter requires two AA batteries for operation. Ensure you use fresh alkaline batteries for optimal performance.

  1. Locate the leather cover at the bottom of the meter.
  2. Gently remove the leather cover to access the battery compartment.
  3. Insert two AA batteries, observing the correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
  4. Replace the leather cover securely.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Power On/Off

  • To power on the meter, press and hold the HOLD button for approximately 2 seconds. The LCD display will illuminate.
  • The meter features an automatic power-off function to conserve battery life. It will turn off after a period of inactivity.
  • To manually power off, press and hold the HOLD button again until the display turns off.

5.2. Material Selection (Wood Groups / Construction Material)

The meter offers different modes for various materials to ensure accurate readings.

  1. With the meter powered on, press the MODE button to cycle through the available material types.
  2. The display will show indicators like "TREE" for wood or "BLDG" for construction materials, along with a number (1-8 for wood groups, or a specific indicator for construction material).
  3. Refer to the meter's internal wood group chart (if available in the full manual) to select the appropriate group for the wood you are testing.

5.3. Temperature Unit Selection

To switch between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F) for temperature display:

  • Press the °C/°F button briefly. The temperature unit on the display will change.

5.4. Backlight Activation

For improved visibility in low-light conditions:

  • Briefly press the MODE button (after selecting the desired material type) to toggle the backlight on or off.

5.5. Taking a Measurement

To obtain an accurate moisture reading:

  1. Remove the protective cap from the pins.
  2. Carefully push the pins into the material you wish to measure. Ensure both pins penetrate the surface adequately for good contact.
  3. The moisture content percentage will be displayed on the LCD screen.
  4. For consistent results, take multiple readings in different spots on the material.
  5. After measurement, replace the protective cap to prevent injury and protect the pins.

5.6. Data Hold Function

To freeze the current reading on the display:

  • Briefly press the HOLD button while a measurement is being taken. The "HOLD" icon will appear on the display.
  • Press the HOLD button again to release the reading and return to live measurement mode.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the meter with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Always replace the protective cap over the pins when not in use. Store the meter in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Battery Replacement: When the battery indicator shows low power, replace the batteries promptly to ensure accurate readings and prevent damage from battery leakage.
  • Pin Care: Ensure the pins are clean and free from debris. If pins become bent or damaged, they may affect measurement accuracy.

7. Troubleshooting
