1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective use of your TOPTES Environmental Monitoring Kit, which includes the TS-501B Decibel Meter and the TS-301 Anemometer. This versatile kit is designed to accurately detect ambient noise levels and measure wind speed, making it suitable for a wide range of indoor and outdoor applications.

2. Product Components

Upon opening the package, please verify that all the following items are included:

  • 1x TOPTES TS-501B Decibel Meter
  • 1x TOPTES TS-301 Anemometer
  • 6x AAA Batteries (3 for each device)
  • 2x User Manual (one for each device, or a combined manual)
  • 2x Carry Case (one for each device)

3. Setup

3.1 Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of both the TS-501B Decibel Meter and the TS-301 Anemometer.
  2. Slide or unclip the cover to open the compartment.
  3. Insert three (3) AAA batteries into each device, ensuring the correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
  4. Replace the battery compartment cover securely.

3.2 Powering On/Off

Press the Power button (Power button icon) located on the front of each device to turn it on. Press and hold the Power button for a few seconds to turn the device off.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 TOPTES TS-501B Decibel Meter

The TS-501B Decibel Meter is designed for precise sound level measurements.

  • Measurement Range: Measures noise levels from 30 to 130 dB.
  • Accuracy: Provides measurements with an accuracy of ±1.5 dB.
  • Frequency Range: Operates within a frequency range of 30 to 8,000 Hz.
  • Weighting Facilities: Equipped with A-weighting and C-weighting facilities.

A-Weighting: Simulates the human ear's response to sound, ideal for general noise assessment in environments like communities, offices, and schools.

4.2 TOPTES TS-301 Anemometer

The TS-301 Anemometer is equipped with easily-rotatable fan blades for accurate wind velocity measurements.

  • Measuring Units: Measures wind velocity in 6 different units:
    • Feet per minute (ft/m)
    • Feet per second (ft/s)
    • Miles per hour (mph)
    • Knots (knots)
    • Kilometers per hour (km/h)
    • Meters per second (m/s)

Applications: Useful for assessing indoor airflow in settings like HVAC systems, vents, dust collectors, and heat registers. Also ideal for outdoor activities such as boating, surfing, shooting, drone flying, golf, and camping.

4.3 Common Features (Both Devices)

  • LCD Screen with Backlight: Both devices feature a 2.25-inch LCD screen for clear display of readings. Long press the backlight button to activate the backlight, ensuring easy readability even in low-light conditions or bright sunlight.

  • MAX/MIN Measurement: The devices can display the maximum (MAX) or minimum (MIN) measured values over a certain period. This feature is useful for capturing peak or lowest readings.
  • Data Hold Function: Freeze the current reading on the display by activating the data hold function. This allows for convenient recording of specific measurements.

5. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the devices with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace batteries promptly when the low battery indicator appears on the display to ensure accurate readings. Remove batteries if the devices will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
  • Storage: Store the devices in their provided carry cases in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Anemometer Fan Blades: Ensure the fan blades of the TS-301 Anemometer are free from dust and debris to maintain smooth rotation and accurate measurements.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your TOPTES Environmental Monitoring Kit, please refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • Device does not power on:
    • Check if the batteries are inserted correctly with the proper polarity.
    • Replace with fresh AAA batteries.
  • Inaccurate readings:
    • Ensure the sensors (microphone for TS-501B, fan blades for TS-301) are clean and unobstructed.
    • Verify that the correct measurement unit is selected on the TS-301 Anemometer.
    • Ensure the device is held steady and not subjected to excessive vibration during measurement.
  • Display is dim or flickering:
    • Replace the batteries.
    • Activate the backlight by long-pressing the backlight button.
