3. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for optimal performance. Follow these steps for a secure and discreet setup:

  1. Prepare the Windshield: Clean the area on your windshield where you intend to mount the dashcam. Apply the electrostatic film first, then attach the adhesive bracket to the film. This allows for easier removal without leaving residue.
  2. Mount the Front Camera: Secure the main dashcam unit to the adhesive bracket. Ensure it is positioned to capture a clear view of the road ahead without obstructing your driving vision.
  3. Install the Cabin Camera: The cabin camera is integrated with the main unit and can be adjusted for optimal interior view.
  4. Install the Rear Camera: The rear camera is IP68 waterproof and can be installed either inside or outside your vehicle. For interior installation on the rear windshield, an additional bracket (sold separately, ASIN: B09D7RHV89) may be required for optimal angle. For exterior installation, route the cable carefully to the rear license plate area.
  5. Route Cables: Use the provided pry tool and cable clips to neatly tuck the power cable and rear camera cable along the edges of your car's interior trim. Connect the power cable to the car charger and plug it into your vehicle's cigarette lighter socket.
  6. Insert MicroSD Card: Insert the included 64GB MicroSD card into the designated slot on the dashcam. Ensure it is inserted correctly until it clicks into place.

4.1. Triple-Channel Recording

The M550 MAX simultaneously records video from three perspectives:

  • Front Camera: Records in 4K UHD (3840x2160P) resolution, capturing clear details of the road ahead.
  • Rear Camera: Records in 2.5K QHD (2560x1440P) resolution, providing a high-definition view of the rear.
  • Interior Camera: Records in 1080p FHD (1920x1080P) resolution, monitoring the cabin activity.

4.2. Built-in Wi-Fi and AZDOME App

The integrated Wi-Fi allows you to connect your smartphone to the dashcam via the free AZDOME app (available on iOS and Android). This enables live viewing, video playback, downloading recordings to your phone, and adjusting settings.

  • Connecting to Wi-Fi: Turn on the dashcam. On your smartphone, go to Wi-Fi settings and connect to the dashcam's Wi-Fi network (usually named AZDOME_M550_XXXX). The default password is '12345678'.
  • Using the App: Open the AZDOME app. You can view live footage, browse recorded videos, download important clips, and share them. Ensure your phone is within 10 feet (3 meters) of the dashcam for a stable connection.

4.3. GPS Tracking

The built-in GPS module accurately records your driving route, location, and speed. This data can be viewed using the AZDOME app or a dedicated GPS player on your computer (compatible with macOS and Windows). This feature provides crucial evidence in case of incidents or disputes.

4.4. Dual STARVIS Night Vision and WDR

The M550 MAX is equipped with dual Sony STARVIS sensors, WDR (Wide Dynamic Range) technology, 6 IR LEDs for the interior camera, and an F1.8 aperture. These features ensure excellent image quality even in low-light conditions, capturing clear details of road signs, license plates, and interior activities during nighttime driving.

4.5. 24-Hour Parking Mode

The dashcam offers three parking surveillance modes to protect your vehicle 24/7. A hardwire kit (ASIN: B0BHN8SS4D, sold separately) is required to enable these features:

  • Collision Detection: The G-sensor detects impacts and automatically records and locks footage.
  • Motion Detection: Recording starts automatically when motion is detected around the vehicle.
  • Time-Lapse Recording: Continuously records at a low frame rate (e.g., 1 FPS) to save storage space while maintaining full coverage.

4.6. Loop Recording and G-Sensor

The dashcam supports seamless loop recording in 1, 3, or 5-minute segments. When the MicroSD card is full, the oldest unlocked footage is automatically overwritten to make space for new recordings.

The built-in G-sensor detects sudden impacts or collisions. Upon detection, it automatically locks the current video segment (1, 3, or 5 minutes) to prevent it from being overwritten, ensuring critical evidence is preserved.

4.7. Super Capacitor for Durability

Unlike traditional dashcams that use lithium-ion batteries, the AZDOME M550 MAX utilizes a super capacitor. This provides enhanced safety and durability, allowing the dashcam to operate reliably in extreme temperatures ranging from -20°C to 70°C (-4°F to 158°F). This design significantly reduces the risk of overheating or battery swelling, common issues in hot climates.

5. Maintenance

  • Formatting the MicroSD Card: It is recommended to format the MicroSD card regularly (e.g., once a month) to prevent data corruption and ensure optimal recording performance. This can usually be done through the dashcam's menu settings or via the AZDOME app.
  • Cleaning Lenses: Keep the lenses of all three cameras clean using a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid abrasive materials or harsh chemicals that could scratch the lens.
  • Firmware Updates: Check the official AZDOME website periodically for firmware updates. Keeping your dashcam's firmware updated can improve performance and add new features.
