1. Introduction and Overview

The Keychron K5 Max is an ultra-slim wireless mechanical keyboard designed for versatility and performance. It offers three connectivity modes: 2.4 GHz wireless, Bluetooth 5.1, and wired (USB Type-C), making it compatible with a wide range of devices including macOS, Windows, Linux, Android, and iOS systems. Featuring low-profile Gateron Red switches and durable PBT keycaps, the K5 Max provides a responsive and comfortable typing experience. Its QMK/VIA programmability allows for extensive customization of key layouts and macro commands, enhancing workflow efficiency. 3. Setup

3.1. Initial Charging

Before first use, connect the keyboard to a power source using the provided USB Type-C cable to ensure it is fully charged. The keyboard has a 2000mAh battery.

3.2. Connectivity Modes

The K5 Max supports three connection types:

  • 2.4 GHz Wireless: For a stable and fast connection, especially recommended for gaming. Insert the 2.4 GHz RF dongle into your device's USB port. Use the switch on the back of the keyboard to select 2.4G mode.
  • Bluetooth 5.1: Ideal for connecting to up to three devices simultaneously for seamless multitasking. Switch the mode selector on the keyboard to BT (Bluetooth). Press Fn + 1 (or 2, 3) for 4 seconds to enter pairing mode.
  • Wired (USB Type-C): Connect the keyboard directly to your device using the USB Type-C cable. This mode also charges the keyboard. Use the switch on the back of the keyboard to select Cable mode.

3.3. Operating System Compatibility

Use the dedicated switch on the back of the keyboard to select between 'Win/Android' and 'Mac/iOS' layouts to ensure proper key functionality for your operating system.

3.4. Adjusting Keyboard Angle

The keyboard features adjustable feet on the bottom, allowing you to set two different typing angles for ergonomic comfort.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1. QMK/VIA Programmability

The Keychron K5 Max supports QMK/VIA firmware, enabling extensive customization:

  • Connect the keyboard to your device via USB Type-C.
  • Download the VIA software from the Keychron official website.
  • Use the software to remap any key, create macros, and customize backlight effects across different layers.

4.2. RGB Backlight Effects

4.3. Function Keys and Media Controls

5. Maintenance

5.1. Cleaning

To clean the keyboard, power it off and disconnect it from all devices. Use a soft, lint-free cloth, slightly dampened with water or a mild cleaning solution, to wipe the keycaps and frame. Avoid excessive moisture.

5.2. Keycap and Switch Replacement

The K5 Max features hot-swappable switches, allowing for easy replacement without soldering. Use the provided keycap and switch pullers to carefully remove and install components. Ensure switch pins are straight before insertion to prevent damage.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Keyboard not responding: Ensure the keyboard is charged and the correct connectivity mode (2.4G, BT, or Cable) is selected. Check USB connections.
  • Bluetooth pairing issues: Ensure the keyboard is in pairing mode (Fn + 1/2/3 for 4 seconds) and your device's Bluetooth is enabled. Try forgetting and re-pairing the device.
  • Backlight not working: Check if the backlight is enabled and adjust brightness settings using the function keys.
  • Keys not registering correctly: Ensure switches are properly seated. If a specific switch is faulty, it can be replaced using the provided tools.
