Operating Instructions

The Hape E3874 locomotive can be operated using two power methods: kinetic energy from a hand crank or a USB charge.

Crank Operation

  1. Locate the Crank: Identify the hand crank mechanism on top of the locomotive.
  2. Turn the Crank: Rotate the crank vigorously. This action generates kinetic energy, which will illuminate the train's lights and make it roll forward. The duration of movement depends on the amount of energy generated.

USB Charge Operation

  1. Charge the Locomotive: Refer to the "Charging the Locomotive" section for detailed instructions on USB charging.
  2. Activate Power: Once the locomotive is sufficiently charged, press the power button (if available, or simply place it on tracks if it activates automatically) to turn on the train and make it roll.

Charging the Locomotive

Your Hape E3874 locomotive can be charged using the included USB cable.

  1. Connect USB Cable: Locate the USB charging port on the locomotive. Insert the smaller end of the included USB cable into this port.
  2. Connect to Power Source: Plug the larger end of the USB cable into a standard USB power adapter (not included) or a computer's USB port.
  3. Charging Indicator: Observe any indicator lights on the locomotive (if present) to determine charging status.
  4. Disconnect: Once fully charged, carefully disconnect the USB cable from both the locomotive and the power source.

Note: The locomotive can also be powered directly by turning the hand crank, as described in the "Operating Instructions" section, without requiring a USB charge.
