1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the operation and maintenance of your AstrHori XH-2 Camera Light Meter. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the device to ensure proper function and longevity.

3. Setup

3.1 Charging the Device

The AstrHori XH-2 Light Meter features a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery. Before initial use, it is recommended to fully charge the device.

1. Locate the USB Type-C port on the bottom of the light meter.
2. Connect the provided USB-C cable to the light meter and a compatible USB power source (e.g., computer USB port, USB wall adapter).
3. The device will indicate charging status on its OLED display. A full charge typically takes approximately 30 minutes.

3.2 Mounting on a Camera

The XH-2 Light Meter is designed to be mounted on a camera's cold shoe. It does not establish electrical contact with the camera.

1. Ensure the light meter is powered off.
2. Slide the cold shoe mount of the light meter into your camera's cold shoe slot until it is securely seated.
3. The light meter can also be used handheld.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Power On/Off and Activation

• To power on, press the side button.
• To power off, long-press the side button for 0.5 seconds.
• The device enters a low-power dormant mode after 25 seconds of inactivity. To reactivate, click the metering button.
• The device automatically powers off after approximately 3 hours in dormant mode.

4.2 Understanding the Display

The 0.66" OLED display shows various metering parameters. Refer to the diagram below for an overview of the display elements.

• EV/EC: Exposure Value / Exposure Compensation.
• Shutter Time: Recommended shutter speed.
• Aperture: Recommended aperture value.
• ISO: Current ISO setting.
• Power Display: Battery level indicator.
• Aperture Priority/Shutter Priority (A/T): Indicates the current metering mode.
• Lock Icon: Indicates if metering is locked.
• Real-time Metering: Indicates active metering.

4.3 Adjusting Parameters

The light meter features a central button and a surrounding dial for parameter adjustments.

• Changing Modes (A/T): Double-click the central button to switch between Aperture Priority (A) mode and Shutter Priority (T) mode.
• Setting ISO: Double-click the central button and press for approximately 0.5 seconds to enter ISO setting mode. Use the dial to adjust the ISO value.
• Setting EV/EC: Double-click the central button and press for approximately 3.5 seconds to enter EV/EC setting mode. Use the dial to adjust the Exposure Value or Exposure Compensation.
• Adjusting Values: Once a parameter (ISO, Aperture, Shutter Speed, EV/EC) is selected, rotate the outer dial to change its value.

The light meter supports a wide range of settings:

• ISO Range: ISO 5 to ISO 6400
• Aperture Range: F1 to F32
• Shutter Speed Range: 1/8000s to 32s

4.4 Metering Process

The XH-2 uses a 30° average metering system with an anti-reflective stepped design for accurate light gathering.

1. Point the light meter towards the subject or scene you wish to meter.
2. The device will perform real-time metering, displaying the recommended exposure settings (shutter speed and aperture) based on your set ISO and selected priority mode.
3. A single metering takes approximately 0.5 seconds.
4. To lock the current metering, press the central button once when real-time metering is active.

Note: The metering module has been upgraded for enhanced accuracy.

5. Maintenance

• Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the light meter. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents.
• Storage: Store the device in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
• Battery Care: For optimal battery life, avoid fully discharging the battery frequently. Charge the device regularly, even if not in use for extended periods.
• Protection: Avoid dropping the device or subjecting it to strong impacts.
