2. Powering the Device (PoE)
The device is powered using Power over Ethernet (PoE). The included PoE converter allows you to supply power and data through a single Ethernet cable.
- Connect one end of the provided RJ45 network cable to the "LAN/POE" port on the PoE converter.
- Connect the other end of this cable to the WAN/PoE port on the NEWFAST Outdoor WLAN Access Point.
- Connect your router or network switch to the "LAN" port on the PoE converter using another Ethernet cable.
- Plug the power adapter into the PoE converter and then into a power outlet. The device will power on automatically.

3. Initial Configuration
To configure the device, you will need to access its web-based management interface.
- Connect your computer directly to one of the LAN ports on the PoE converter (or directly to the LAN port of the access point if not using PoE for initial setup).
- Set your computer's IP address to be in the same subnet as the access point's default IP address (e.g., if the AP's default IP is 192.168.1.1, set your computer to 192.168.1.X, where X is not 1).
- Open a web browser and enter the default IP address of the access point (refer to the Quick Start Guide for the default IP, usually 192.168.1.1 or similar).
- Enter the default username and password (also found in the Quick Start Guide).
- Follow the on-screen wizard to configure your desired operating mode (AP, Router, Repeater, Bridge), Wi-Fi name (SSID), password, and other network settings.
- Save your settings and restart the device if prompted.
Operating Modes
The NEWFAST Outdoor WLAN Access Point supports four main operating modes to cater to different network scenarios:

Figure 6: Visual explanation of the Router/AP, Repeater, and Bridge operating modes, showing how the device integrates into different network configurations.
- Access Point (AP) Mode:
In AP mode, the device connects to a wired network and broadcasts a wireless signal, allowing wireless clients to connect. This is ideal for creating a new Wi-Fi hotspot in an outdoor area.
- Router Mode:
In Router mode, the device acts as a primary router, connecting to an internet source (e.g., modem) and providing both wired and wireless network access to connected devices. It includes NAT and DHCP functionalities.
- Repeater Mode:
Repeater mode extends the coverage of an existing wireless network. The device receives the Wi-Fi signal from your main router and re-broadcasts it, eliminating Wi-Fi dead zones.
- Bridge Mode:
Bridge mode allows the device to connect two wired networks wirelessly. It can also be used to connect a wired device to a wireless network, acting as a wireless adapter for devices without Wi-Fi capabilities.

Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your NEWFAST Outdoor WLAN Access Point.
- Cleaning: Periodically wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and dirt. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols.
- Firmware Updates: Check the NEWFAST official website regularly for firmware updates. Updating the firmware can improve performance, add new features, and fix bugs. Follow the instructions provided with the firmware update carefully.
- Cable Inspection: Periodically inspect all connected cables (Ethernet, power) for any signs of wear, damage, or corrosion. Replace damaged cables immediately.
- Environmental Check: Ensure the installation environment remains clear of obstructions that could block the Wi-Fi signal. Verify that the device is securely mounted and not exposed to excessive physical stress.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your NEWFAST Outdoor WLAN Access Point, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No Power/LEDs Off | Power adapter or PoE connection issue. | Check if the power adapter is securely plugged into the outlet and the PoE converter. Ensure the Ethernet cable from the PoE converter is correctly connected to the AP's WAN/PoE port. |
| No Wi-Fi Signal | Incorrect configuration, disabled Wi-Fi, or signal interference. | Verify Wi-Fi settings (SSID, password) in the web interface. Ensure Wi-Fi is enabled. Check for physical obstructions or sources of interference. Try changing Wi-Fi channels. |
| Slow Connection Speed | Interference, too many connected devices, or poor signal strength. | Optimize AP placement for better signal. Reduce the number of active devices if possible. Ensure you are using the 5GHz band for higher speeds if supported by your devices. Check for firmware updates. |
| Cannot Access Web Interface | Incorrect IP address, network settings on PC, or device malfunction. | Ensure your PC's IP address is in the same subnet as the AP. Verify the AP's IP address. Try a different browser. If all else fails, perform a factory reset (see below). |
| Device Not Responding | Software crash or critical error. | Unplug the power adapter from the PoE converter, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in to restart the device. |
Factory Reset
If you forget your login password or encounter persistent issues, you can perform a factory reset. This will revert all settings to their default values.
- With the device powered on, locate the Reset button (refer to Figure 2 for location).
- Use a paperclip or a thin object to press and hold the Reset button for approximately 5-10 seconds until the LEDs flash.
- Release the button. The device will restart with factory default settings.
