1. Introduction

2. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps to set up your Orbi WiFi 7 Mesh Network System. For the easiest setup, download the Orbi app on your mobile device.

2.1 Initial Setup with Orbi App

1. Download the Orbi App: Search for "NETGEAR Orbi" in your mobile device's app store and download the application.
2. Position Your Orbi Router: Place the Orbi router (RBE771) in a central location in your home, ideally near your internet modem.
3. Connect the Orbi Router:
   • Disconnect your modem from power.
   • Connect one end of the provided Ethernet cable to the 2.5 Gig Internet port (yellow) on your Orbi router.
   • Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to your modem's Ethernet port.
   • Connect your modem to power and wait for it to fully boot up.
   • Connect the Orbi router to power using one of the power adapters. The LED on the Orbi router will light up.
4. Position Orbi Satellite: Place the Orbi satellite (RBE770) in a location that provides optimal coverage, typically halfway between the router and the area needing extended WiFi. Ensure it is within range of the main router.
5. Connect the Orbi Satellite: Connect the Orbi satellite to power using the second power adapter. The LED on the satellite will light up.
6. Launch Orbi App: Open the Orbi app on your mobile device and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup process. The app will guide you through connecting to the Orbi WiFi network, configuring network settings, and syncing the satellite.

2.2 Understanding Orbi Ports

The Orbi router and satellite units feature multiple Ethernet ports for wired connections:

• 2.5 Gig Internet Port (Yellow): Used to connect the Orbi router to your internet modem for high-speed internet access.
• 2.5 Gbps Ethernet Ports (Black): These ports provide ultra-fast wired connections for devices such as gaming consoles, smart TVs, network-attached storage (NAS), or computers.

4.1 Firmware Updates

NETGEAR regularly releases firmware updates to improve performance, add new features, and address security vulnerabilities. It is recommended to enable automatic firmware updates through the Orbi app or check for updates periodically to ensure your system is running the latest software.

4.2 Optimal Placement

Ensure your Orbi router and satellites are placed in open areas, away from large metal objects, thick walls, and other electronic devices that may cause interference. Proper placement maximizes WiFi coverage and signal strength.

4.3 Cleaning

Gently wipe the exterior of the Orbi units with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using liquid cleaners or abrasive materials, as these can damage the device.

5. Troubleshooting

This section provides solutions to common issues you might encounter with your Orbi system.

5.1 No Internet Connection

• Check Cable Connections: Ensure the Ethernet cable from your modem is securely connected to the yellow 2.5 Gig Internet port on your Orbi router. Verify all power adapters are firmly plugged into the Orbi units and power outlets.
• Power Cycle Devices: Disconnect power from your modem, Orbi router, and Orbi satellites. Wait for 30 seconds, then reconnect power to your modem first. Once the modem is fully online, reconnect power to your Orbi router, and then your Orbi satellites.
• Check Modem Status: Ensure your internet modem is functioning correctly and has an active internet connection.

5.2 Satellite Not Syncing or Offline

• Relocate Satellite: Move the satellite closer to the Orbi router to ensure it is within optimal range for initial syncing. Once synced, you can try moving it to a more desired location.
• Power Cycle Satellite: Disconnect and reconnect power to the satellite unit.
• Check Satellite LED: Refer to the quick start guide for the meaning of different LED colors on the satellite, which indicate its connection status.
• Firmware Mismatch: Ensure both the router and satellite have the latest and compatible firmware versions. This can be managed via the Orbi app.

5.3 Slow WiFi Speeds

• Check Internet Plan: Verify that your internet service provider (ISP) plan supports the speeds you expect.

5.4 Factory Reset

1. With the Orbi router powered on, use a paperclip or similar pointed object to press and hold the Reset button on the back of the router for about 10 seconds until the LED flashes.
2. Release the Reset button and wait for the router to reboot.
