3.3 Attaching the Ground Spreader

For maximum stability, especially on uneven surfaces, attach the ground spreader SP 75 to the tripod legs. This prevents the legs from splaying outwards.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Counterbalance Adjustment

The Ace XL fluid head features nine steps of counterbalance to match your payload precisely. Rotate the counterbalance dial (refer to Figure 3.2) to select the appropriate setting for your camera rig's weight. Proper counterbalance ensures smooth vertical movements and prevents the camera from tipping.

4.2 Drag Control

The Sachtler drag system provides smooth pan and tilt movements. There are 3 + 0 steps of drag control. Adjust the drag knobs (refer to Figure 3.2) to achieve the desired resistance for panning (horizontal) and tilting (vertical) movements. Setting '0' provides no drag, while higher numbers increase resistance for smoother, more controlled movements.

4.3 Leveling the Tripod

The Ace XL fluid head includes an illuminated level bubble. Use this bubble to ensure your tripod is perfectly level before shooting. Adjust the tripod leg lengths until the bubble is centered within the indicator.

4.4 Using the Pan Bar

Attach the Pan Bar Ace (S2150-1200) to the fluid head for precise control over panning and tilting movements. The pan bar can be adjusted for length and angle to suit your operating preference.

5. Maintenance and Care

  • Cleaning: Regularly wipe down the tripod and fluid head with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a slightly damp cloth and mild soap, then dry thoroughly. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Lubrication: The fluid head is factory-lubricated and generally does not require user lubrication. If you notice any stiffness or unusual resistance, contact Sachtler customer support.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the tripod system in its Ace bag (9117) in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Inspection: Periodically check all screws, knobs, and leg locks for tightness. Ensure all moving parts operate smoothly.
