1. Product Overview

The 2024 Dark Ops FHDR camera from Browning is designed for field surveillance, featuring HDR night pictures to enhance image quality. Its Gen 2 Night Optics System provides long-range night illumination.

3. Initial Setup

3.1 Installing Batteries

The camera requires 8 AA batteries (not included). Open the battery compartment located on the side or bottom of the camera. Insert the batteries according to the polarity indicators (+/-) inside the compartment. Close the compartment securely to ensure water resistance.

3.2 Inserting SD Card

Insert a Class 10 or higher SD card (up to 512GB, not included) into the SD card slot with the label facing up. Push until it clicks into place. To remove, push the card in again until it springs out.

3.3 Mounting the Camera

Use the provided mounting strap to secure the camera to a tree or post. Ensure the camera is stable and pointed towards the desired surveillance area. The camera should be mounted at a height of approximately 3-6 feet (1-2 meters) from the ground.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Powering On/Off

Locate the power switch inside the camera housing. Slide the switch to the "ON" position to power on the camera. The status LED will illuminate briefly. To power off, slide the switch to the "OFF" position.

4.2 Menu Navigation

The camera features an internal LCD screen and navigation buttons. Use the UP/DOWN arrows to scroll through menu options and the ENTER button to select. The BACK button allows you to return to the previous menu.

4.3 Setting Date and Time

Navigate to the "Date/Time" setting in the menu. Use the navigation buttons to set the current date, time, and format. This ensures accurate timestamps on your photos and videos.

4.4 Photo/Video Mode Selection

From the main menu, select "Mode" to choose between Photo, Video, or Photo+Video capture modes. Adjust resolution and length settings as desired for each mode.

4.5 Trigger Speed Settings

The BTC-6FHDR offers an adjustable trigger speed from 0.135 to 0.7 seconds. Access the "Trigger Speed" setting in the menu to select the desired response time for motion detection.

4.6 Night Illumination Settings

Configure night IR illumination settings under the "Night IR" menu. Options include "Fast Motion," "Long Range," and "Economy" modes. Select the mode best suited for your specific monitoring needs to optimize battery life and image quality.

4.7 Retrieving Media

To retrieve photos and videos, power off the camera and remove the SD card. Insert the SD card into a computer or compatible card reader to access the files. Alternatively, some models may support direct connection via USB cable (not included).

5. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the camera lens and IR filter with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive materials or harsh chemicals. Ensure the housing seals are free of debris.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace all batteries simultaneously with new, high-quality AA alkaline or lithium batteries. Do not mix old and new batteries or different battery types.
  • SD Card Management: Format the SD card regularly (e.g., monthly) using the camera's internal format function to maintain optimal performance and prevent data corruption. Back up important files before formatting.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the camera in a cool, dry place with batteries removed.
