Setup and Charging

Your Aivica Emergency Radio offers multiple charging methods to ensure it's always ready for use.

Four images showing different charging methods for the Aivica emergency radio: Type-C input, solar panel, hand crank, and AAA battery compartment.

The Aivica radio supports four power supply methods: Type-C input, solar panel, hand crank, and AAA batteries.

  1. USB-C Charging (Recommended for Initial Charge)

Connect the provided USB-C cable to the radio's Type-C input port and the other end to a standard USB power adapter (not included) or a computer USB port. The charging indicator lights will illuminate to show charging progress. The four blue power indicators will go on when fully charged, and the red charge indicator will change from blinking to steady on.

  2. Hand Crank Charging

Extend the hand crank handle located on the side of the radio. Rotate the crank clockwise or counter-clockwise at a steady pace (approximately 130-150 RPM) for 3-5 minutes to generate enough power for short-term use or to initiate charging. This method is ideal for emergency situations when other power sources are unavailable.

  3. Solar Panel Charging

Place the radio with the solar panel facing direct sunlight. The solar panel will convert sunlight into electrical energy to charge the internal battery. This method is most effective for maintaining charge or for slow, continuous charging in outdoor environments. Note that solar charging is slower than USB-C charging and is primarily for supplemental power.

  4. AAA Battery Power (Not Included)

Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the radio. Insert 3 AAA batteries (not included) according to the polarity markings (+/-). This provides an alternative power source for the radio's functions.

Operating Instructions

1. Power On/Off and Volume Control

To power on the radio, rotate the Volume/Power Knob clockwise. Continue rotating to increase the volume. Rotate counter-clockwise to decrease volume and turn off the radio.

2. Radio Tuning (AM/FM/NOAA Weather Band)

The radio is capable of receiving NOAA, AM, and FM signals, providing essential weather and broadcast information.

  • Band Selection: Use the Band Switch (located on the top of the radio) to select between FM, AM, or WB (Weather Band).
  • Tuning: Rotate the Tuning Knob to scan for stations. Extend the telescopic antenna for better FM and WB reception. For AM, rotate the radio for optimal signal.
  • NOAA Weather Band: Select the WB band. The radio has 7 preset weather bands. Tune to your local NOAA weather station for emergency alerts and weather information.

3. Flashlight and Reading Lamp

Two scenes: top shows people using the 3W LED flashlight, bottom shows a parent and child reading under the 3W reading light.

The radio features a powerful 3W LED flashlight with multiple modes and a convenient 3W reading light.

  • Flashlight: Press the Light Button (usually on the side or front) to cycle through flashlight modes: Low, Medium, High, and Off. The 3W LED flashlight provides bright illumination.
  • Reading Lamp: Lift the solar panel to reveal the reading lamp. Press the Light Button again (or a dedicated reading lamp button if present) to turn the reading lamp on/off. The reading lamp provides soft, diffused light for indoor use.

4. SOS Alarm Function

The SOS alarm function can be activated by long-pressing the dedicated SOS button, emitting a loud siren for emergency signaling.

Long press the SOS Button (typically marked with "SOS" or a siren icon) to activate the loud siren and flashing light. This function is designed to attract attention in emergency situations. Press the button again to deactivate the alarm.

5. Power Bank Function (USB Output)

The radio can be used as a power bank to charge your mobile devices. Connect your device's USB charging cable to the radio's USB Output Port. The radio's internal 5000mAh battery will provide emergency power to your device. This feature is intended for emergency charging and may not fully charge all devices.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the radio with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Storage: Store the radio in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for an extended period, ensure the internal battery is partially charged (around 50%) and recharge it every 3-6 months to prolong battery life.
  • Battery Care: Avoid fully discharging the internal lithium polymer battery frequently. If using AAA batteries, remove them if the radio will not be used for a long time to prevent leakage.
